Dublin - best music pubs?

I have to go to Dublin to spend time with some handicapped people - impressive huh?

So I need to know which are the best music pubs to while away the odd lonely evening. Where else would I seek the information but the 'Cat?

Skarpi, the "children" are all adults - though we don't necessarily act that way!

As Jon says, Hughes of Chancery Street is the place to start. If you like the type of acoustic, non-nonsense traditional music you hear there - ask any of the customers where to find more! For unaccompanied singing, try the Goleen SIngers club, Friday nights in Trinity Inn, Pearse st.

The Brazen Head is always worth a look in just because it's the oldest pub in Ireland and still not smashed up......and the pub across from St James Gate ( the Guiness Brewery) which I think may be called Connollys Bar does, as you might expect, a first rate pint of the black stuff.

O Shea's Merchants across the road from The Brazen Head,go into the bar at the back and The Cobblestones down Smithfield. Directions are not my strong point....Nynia...help!!!!!

The Cobblestone is on the north end of Smithfield square, and Smithfield square is on the north side of the Liffey. Any tourist map will show it. The Cobblestone has a great session on Wednesday night -- and this is a REAL session, not one of those put on for tourists. When I was there, there were 9 musicians, standing room only, and not enough of that.

If the Cobblestone is too crowded, try Chief O'Neil's for a while. It's in the refurbished old Jamieson distillery, which also faces Smithfield square. The atmosphere is like a shopping mall, but the music is good and it's not likely to be crowded.

I only had the one night spare - went to Hughes's and can vouch for it - great night!
