Subject: The Law is for Protection of the People From: Mrrzy Date: 26 Sep 00 - 10:25 AM I think this is a country-western song, so I can't find it on the Net as for some reason, all C&W sites require you to know the artist to look up the song. Pain in the butt. Anyway, the chorus from this has been running through my head lately, possibly because of those conjoined twins in Britain. It is basically about people who are in power and abuse that power. I recall only one verse, where they are harrassing a hippie, but there is another one they harrass a drunk like Billy Dawson (who appears in the chorus instead of "hairy-headed hippie"): Homily Hunicutt was nothing but a hippie Anyway, I'd love the rest of the words. It's a great protest song. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Law is for Protection of the Peo From: Mrrzy Date: 26 Sep 00 - 12:53 PM That's it! Homer Lee,not Homily - OK. Thanks! Great song! I'd forgotten the little dig about ...who them lawmen were protecting / When they nailed the Savior to the Cross! Just out of curiosity - did you know it was Kris Kristofferson when you looked it up, or were you able to find it without knowing the artist - and if so, how did you do it??? THANKS! |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE LAW IS FOR PROTECTION OF THE PEOPLE From: Joe Offer Date: 26 Sep 00 - 04:03 PM I think that one ought to be posted. Generally, if you think a song might be of interest to folk or blues musicians, the lyrics should be posted. If it's a plain old pop song, then maybe a link is sufficient. -Joe Offer-
THE LAW IS FOR PROTECTION OF THE PEOPLE 'Cause the law is for protection of the peopleCharlie Watson wandered like a stranger Showing he had no means of support Police man took one look at his pants cuffs Hustled Charlie Watson off to court. 'Cause the law is for protection of the peopleHomer Lee Hunnicut was nothing but a hippy Walking thru this world without a care Then one day, six strapping brave policeman Held down Homer Lee and cut his hair 'Cause the law is for protection of the people Rules are rules and any foola can see We don't need no hairy headed hippies Scarin' decent folks like you and me, no siree So thank your lucky stars you've got protection Walk the line, and never mind the cost And don't wonder who them lawmen was protecting When they nailed the Savior to the cross. 'Cause the law is for protection of the people |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Law is for Protection of the Peo From: bill\sables Date: 27 Sep 00 - 09:51 AM Quite an appropriate song at the moment here in Yorkshire England. The latest murder by police when they shot and killed a young man who was carrying an air gun. The news relaese was that he had been a soldier in Northern Ireland and them worked as a mercinary in Bosnia where he killed 47 people. The truth is that he never was in the army and never was in Bosnea or any other conflict. He was just a sad dreamer who liked to boast of of his Rambo type existance which was all in his head. He did, however, work in a bacon factory in Malton Yorkshire, this was probably the nearest he ever got to dead bodies |
