Bright Phoebus (Watersons album)

I have just heard that Lal and Mike's Bright Phoebus is finally about to be re-released on CD. As it came out as a Leader recording in 1972, is it possible that it was bought by Dave Bulmer (Celtic Music) with other Leader recordings - and that this re-release means that other Celtic properties (like Nic Jones) might at last be available again?

Might not be such good news in general terms. Bulmer releases bits of his catalogue from time to time, with no rhyme or reason. Alan Taylor's "The Traveller" and Rab Noakes "Under the Rain" last year for example. I would not hold your breath Gaz, but every little is welcolme. Phoebus is an astounding album and long overdue on CD, as are Nick's and the rest of the Leader/Trailer, Black Crow, Highway etc

Yes, it's a start, and it looks as if I can at last remedy the rather bad mistake I made in not buying the album back when I had the chance.  Bulmer still needs a damn good kicking, mind...

Garry, thanks for the thread, and for your wonderful Web site. Finally listened to my boyfriend's bootleg CD of Bright Phoebus last night and I believe my life has been altered. Can't find the CD anywhere in the States still, but through your site i found musikfolk.com and ordered my own copy. What a magnificent piece of work -- makes me mourn for Lal all the more.

Does anyone have word about the Lal tribute album?

Huzzah!! Finally a whole CD dedicated to my daughter!! Funny, only 1 folky friend got the point of her name when she was born.... I was stunned!!

Can't wait to finally get my hands on a copy.

Your daughter must love having a name (i assume) few others have. All those boys out there named 'dylan' can't say the same, i'm afraid.

I've heard that a Lal W tribute album was in the works for some time now, but no one seems to have any real info on it. Anyone? Anyone?

Yes...Bright Phoebus has been out for a couple of months in the UK, and much as I'd like to own a copy, I find myself asking, where does my £12 go??

Erica....I think the tribute CD is still in peoples minds....just a case of "so much to do, so little time".. Would be lovely though....you could start a thread as to who would perform what song !!! Best Ralphie....If I hear of any plans I'll let you know

Good idea. I read on the All Music Guide that Linda and Teddy Thompson had recorded songs to be on this alleged tribute, but upon further investigation have nothing since then.
