I am looking for an Irish song that I know very little about.

These are the lyrics I do know:

They'll be dancing...........romancing.... ........................... whiskey in the tea (tay)

I know it is very vague. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Hi "Guest", I've posted the following lyrics of a song literally called "Whiskey in my Tay" but there's no mention of dancing or romancing so it's probably not the one you want!!
At least we can narrow down the search!!

best wishes, Yvonne

WHISKEY IN MY TAY

(air: 'Mick Maguire')

I was a bold tea-totaller for three long years or more
The neighbors all respected me and the decent clothes I wore
My parents they were fond of me, 'till one unlucky day
When like a child, I was beguiled with whiskey in my tay

I only took the smallest sup, when up the ructions rose
And seeing I was sat upon, I slaughtered friends and foes
The policemen, they surrounded me and took me in next day
The charge was read and duly ped, the whiskey in my tay

From Carrickmacross to Crossmaglen, as any man will vow
There are no rogues, but honest men for miles and miles around
"It isn't rogues or honest men," the justice then did say
"What we'll deal with now is the drunken row and the whiskey in the tay

"This man he was a sober man for three long years or more
The neighbours all respected him and the decent clothes he wore"
"His story is an ancient one," the justice then did say
"But you'll pay your bail or go to jail for the whiskey in your tay"

So all you bred tea-totallers, if sober you may be
Be careful of your company and mind what happened me
It wasn't the boys from Shercock or the lads from Ballybay
But the dealing men from Crossmaglen put the whiskey in my tay

The title is "When the Boys Come Rolling Home". Written by Tommy Sands and recorded by gobs of people. Couldn't find the lyrics on-line, but I have it on cassette. If nobody else has them, I will try to transcribe, but getting lyrics from a cassette is a booger of a job.

WHEN THE BOYS COME ROLLING HOME (Tommy Sands)

I always will remember well the day we went away,
Sailing out of Belfast in the mornin',
Our hopes were on tomorrow as we kissed the girls goodbye,
And our dreams were on the day of our returnin'.

Chorus:
There'll be dancin', romancin', and never more we'll roam,
There'll be rollin' in the hay, there'll be whiskey in the tay
When the boys come rolling home.

We safely reached the other side in New York City fair;
In spite of wind and rain and stormy weather,
We all sat down and drank a glass, and wished each other well,
And we said that we'd be goin' back together.

Now Joe he went to Boston, and Sam to Buffalo,
And Pat went out as far as California;
I used to get some letters then, but that was long ago;
And they always spoke of Ireland and returning.

I must be over 90 now, my grandson's by my bed;
And here I'm in Chicago and still schemin';
He says he'll take me back again to rest my weary head;
And I'll leave him a legacy of free men.

All the best
Seamus

Or the way I hear the last line....

"And I leave him a legacy of -Dreaming-"

Sorta sticks with the theme of leaving and wanting to go back but never making it...

I love this song, and I use it as the 3rd in a marathon of emmigration songs... Starting with Fields Of Athen Rye, nice a mellow the way it should be, into The Outside Track at about Garnet Rogers live tempo and ending with When The Boys COme Rolling Home at a killer pace!

It's great fun!
