In any existing thread where you decide to, plus any you create, plus any PM as a member, plus in e-mail with anyone listed in the resources pages with a posted e-mail, plus at any music venue you go to, plus with anyone you know in the 3D world, and anyone else you choose to do it with under any and all circumstances.

Just like everyone else.

You may not have realized there is no law against it, and even if there were, you could do it in jail.

Dear Guest Me,
Just what music do you want to talk about? Ask away.....oh, and there are L-lists and news groups for banjo, guitar, etc. but Jon Freeman knows more about those than I do.

With the greatest of respect, I would suggest that you start a thread on whatever topic you wish to discuss.
You will then find that the ripples start to spread, just as they are doing now, and someone will give you a link to somewhere else that fits with your chosen subject.

Grief! I've not been THAT pompous for yonks!! Good luck, whoever you are!!

If it's talk about Beatles, I'm available! Also, to a limited extent, Mr. Knopfler. Deep Purple, well perhaps just a smidgeon...

Fire away!

Point of order! Twist and Shout wasn't the Beatles! They only did a cover of it! Brian Poole and the Tremeloes did the 'single' - the Beatles released it as an EP which, unusually, got into the singles chart!

Sorry - not a dig, I'm just a bit pernickety about 'facts', unimportant or not!! ;-)

Rock'n'Roll music - have you heard the Beach Boys' cover of this one? They slowed it down, and (Beach Boys fan speaking, BTW, before anyone gets upset!) ruined it!

Od-la-di, Ob-la-da was written for 'Marmalade', who released it as a single. The Beatles' version (on the White Album) is almost identical - but I don't know which recording was laid down first. Anyone know?

All you need is love - an all time classic. First performed live on television - I'll check on the full details later.

Helter Skelter - one of the 'wilder' songs. On the 'mono' version of the White Album, Ringo's 'I've got blisters on my fingers' was omitted, yet it was included on the 'stereo' version. Why??

(In those days, two versions were produced, as stereo records could be ruined by playing them on mono record players)

My favourites:

In My Life Here, There, and Everywhere Blackbird (okay, really solo McCartney) You've Got To Hide Your Love Away Lady Madonna

(Difficult to limit the list, really, and next week I'll have a different list!!)

Sorry! Forgot to put in the linebreaks!

In My Life
Here, There, and Everywhere
Blackbird (okay, really solo McCartney)
You've Got To Hide Your Love Away
Lady Madonna

But it DOES make an interesting sentence!

Depends on your age - I was in my early teens when the Beatles came to fame. As a result, I matured at a similar rate! Sorry if you find them boring, but I look beyond the superficial!

BTW, why not become a member? It costs nothing, and you can use a pseudonym to remain anonymous until you choose to reveal your true identity!

Membership allows you to send and receive personal messages, and to 'trace' threads.

Tracing a thread means its subject heading appears on your personal page until you don't want it anymore - even though it may be weeks since anyone posted to it.

Try it - it's painless! And it doesn't keep dialling up your ISP when you least want it to, unlike certain other discussion groups...

Have to go out, now, will catch up tomorrow!

Bernard, I know "Twist and Shout" as a (U.S.) chart hit by The Isley Brothers. Since I'm not familiar with Brian Poole and the Tremeloes (although I have heard of The Tremeloes--same group?), I'm assuming they were on the British charts, and I assume their recording was a cover as well.

I agree, The Beach Boys did "Rock and Roll Music" in such a way that it wasn't rock and roll music.

I've always heard it as "I am uplifted by my fingers". Is that a Mondegreen, ot am I correct?

I suppose what GUEST Me (is that an alias for someone who's been around here already...?) may be meaning is, is there a Mudcat sibling somewhere where the focus is a different type of music? And the answer to that so far as I know is, no.

Might be fun if there was - I don't mean the old idea of why-don't-we-break-this-place up-into-different-specialities. But why isn't there this kind of site for other types of music, happening in comradely emulation and rivalry? Maybe there is, and I haven't found it. But then nobody else round here seems to have either.

Or is it that there is something special about folk music as the glue that holds us together even while we talk about other things, including other types of music? Rock and Roll or Classical Music maybe has more of a divide between performer and punter which folk music of all sorts tends to subvert.

Yes of course. But along with the numerous other threads started today by this individual, replying politely, seems to me a good respone.

Welcome Sergio!

Have you ever done research in a library? Discussing things on this site reminds me of that. You set out with an idea, and you start on a book that has a little info but has a bibliography in the back, and you start looking into the books there, and they lead you to others, and one day you get what you want, or else, you get more interesting stuff than what you began to research!

Some of the people on this site are true encyclopedias. But they may not be on when you are. If a request of yours dies, don't despair, wait a couple days, try again. I hope you are impressed that already, you have located Bernard here. What other site could you go to and locate another person, so knowledgable, so quickly?

Take it easy, persevere, and I am sure your time here will be rewarding for you.

Gary T: yes, the Tremeloes (without Brian Poole) continued to do covers - Frankie Valli's 'Silence is Golden' was very big for them, and better known than the Four Seasons' version in this country.

As Brian Poole and the Tremeloes they did the 'original cover' of Twist and Shout, which wasn't as successful as the Beatles' cover, but they successfully retaliated with 'Do You Love Me?', almost a carbon copy of Twist and Shout... The Beatles didn't lower themselves to making a fight of it, fortunately.

'Me ears are alight!'

McGrath of Harlow - 'I've always heard it as "I am uplifted by my fingers". Is that a Mondegreen, or am I correct?'

It's officially documented (can't just remember where), so your ears are alight!! ;-)

Anyway, Ford make Mondeos in colours other than green...

Fear not - I'm still up in the clouds from Llanstock - I'm not intentionally extracting urine!!

Sorry for my curiosity, Sergio: are you Spanish-speaking ? The name Sergio could be Spanish or Latinamerican or Italian. There are some Italians here, but I'm the only Latin as far as I know.

Andrés, in Buenos Aires

Esamillo - surely Italians have to count as "Latin" - they invented the language after all. (And surely Argentina is as Italian as it is Spanish, when it's not being Irish?)

McGrath, when the national heavyweight champion Ringo Bonavena (30 years ago) visited Italy, some journalist asked him how he felt in Italy, and he replied " I feel at home, because all people's last names are Argentinian !" :))
