Dave Webber & Anni Fentiman gave a house concert in Berkeley that was just wonderful. An entire evening of a cappella singing! No gimmicks, no crazy costumes and no ego trips to be found. Yet these two are no amateurs. I heard some of the best English singing ever and I must add that we in the audience provided some of the best chorus singing I've heard in a while as well.

Dave and Anni are very knowledgeable about the songs they sing and their concert was informative as well as entertaining. Their stage presence was refreshing as well, very warm yet very powerful.

Yeah, but their chorus in Davis, California, Saturday night had Dick Holdstock, Ray Frank, and Joe Offer - who could beat that?

Another remarkable thing about Dave and Anni is their humor and good spirit. they both had colds, but you would have thought that Anni's melodious nose-blowing and Dave's plugged ear were part of the act. What a great show!

Oh yeah, Joe? Well, we had Holdstock in Berkeley as well. And someone sitting behind me was singing some incredible subterranian bass lines. Hey, maybe we can start a new thread called "best audience chorus ever?"

Joe, I agree with you on Dave and Anni's stage presence. They played off each other to great effect.

As someone who lives in the Webber/Fentiman locality - we book them once a year at our local folk club - I can say that I am not surprised that their performance was well enjoyed. As for the chorus line - when they play around here, you will usually find that this function is carried out by members of the audience, several of whom will sell you a copy of their own latest recording if you ask them nicely. The last time I saw them here, I can assuredly say that there were about 20% folk recording artists in the audience, and if they were prepared to pay to get in you can be assured that Webber/Fentiman are giving quality performances.

Harumpf! Well, I guess that Holdstock guy must be a regular Webber-Fentiman groupie. I'll have to have a talk with him.

Re: Subterranean bass lines - Dave Webber is the only man I have ever heard do a convincing version of Whale song - he does a fair impersonation of a humpback!

Joe, go easy on old Holdstock. Dave and Anni were staying at his house so he was obliged to get them to their gig.
