Subject: Lyric Req: The Trumpet - The Chariot From: Haruo Date: 18 Oct 00 - 07:34 PM "The Trumpet" is the tune name by which a text (by H. H. Milman) beginning "The chariot! the chariot!" is known in the fasola (shape-note) tradition. I first ran into this text in a (tuneless) syllabic Cherokee hymnal, and subsequently in a number of shapenote books including the Southern Harmony, the Sacred Harp Online, and the Social Harp. A couple years ago I translated it from some source that had only the first three verses, and where the second verse mentioned the Archangel Michael. None of the versions I can now locate have this reference to Michael. Does anybody recognize it, or have even a guess where it's from? Liland |
