Er, Dougie MacLean, that is. Er. ;)

It's next to impossible to find! Any suggestions?

(and yes, I did do a topic search first...)

I'm not sure where you are, but if you are in the UK. Topic Records can always get it for you. Dougie has a web site and online shop.
I'll beetle off and see if i can find the URL.

Iv'e just looked at Dougie's site www.dougiemaclean.com sorry can't do blue clicky things.
The album isn't listed there and the only album with a track on anywhere near similar was "Fiddle" which had Mr. & Mrs. MacLean of Snaigow.
The sites worth a visit.

Hey Moll,

I'm pretty sure I have that LP at home. I'll check tonight. If I do have it, I'll be happy to tape it for you seeing as how it doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

Fine, go ahead and gloat, and here I am pining away to hear Dougie sing "Lough Tay Boat Song"...fine, just be that way...*sniffle* ;)

and Richard (radriano)--that would be great! I'll happily pay shipping and send you a blank tape or reimburse you or whatever...I live in the US, incidentally. If you have it, that is. :) Yay lovely 'catters!

Hi Moll,

You know, I forgot to look last night but I'm almost positive I have it. Why don't you send me a personal message with your mailing address or if you prefer, you can e-mail it to me. My e-mail address is listed in Mudcat Resources.

I've gotten so much out of Mudcat - help with lyrics and song background information not to mention contact with some wonderful people that I feel like I need no re-imbursement for being able to help out someone else for a change.

Try www.dunkeld.co.uk/main for Dougie's home, record label and pub sites. (Sorry, still to learn blickies!) Check out Internet Radio Taybank - should be going out live tonite (Friday-UK time, with the folk club set). His pub sessions sometimes go out live, too and he often joins in - if you hear a cowboy boot stompin' off the flair, keepin' time -- thats Dougie playin' fiddle!
Also try his shop (Dunkeld records, Cathedral St. Dunkeld, Perthshire, SCOTLAND, +44(0)1350 727990)
I have the dots for "Mr and Mrs MacLean of Snaigow". My scanner's down, but I can fax it to you, if you post a number on my message board.
Luv, Rob

I had the ULTIMATE privilege of hanging out a bit w/Dougie at the Irish session at Conor Byrne's (sp?) in Seattle after his show October 8th, and he brought out the fiddle (which he hadn't played at all during the concert). He was SO incredibly friendly and cool (not to mention, of course, a kickass fiddler...)! And when I finally got up the nerve to sing a wee song at the session, he went out of the way to tell me he enjoyed it...AND kissed me on the cheek *swoon*...I can guarantee you that I will certainly be frequenting the Tay Bank whenever possible, online or (hopefully sometime soon) in person. Keeping my fingers crossed on the second bit there :)

I know, I'm the groupie from hell. But with someone as neat as Dougie, it's hard to help oneself. Sigh.

Moll,
First time I arrived at Taybank -- for a fiddle lesson, having driven 50 miles, blown up the engine 10 miles short, got the last bus to Dunkeld, was greeted by Dougie havin' his tea, who asked whit the problem was. (I was drookit, fair pecht, an' loaded with anything nickable from my car). Within 30 seconds, he'd asked someone to phone the local musos hostel (£8 per night, AND they'll come an' fetch ye fae the pub at shuttin' time!), asked Linda the cook tae mak sure I goat fed, directed me tae the appropriate fiddle teacher fer my standard (beginners!), an' generally made me welcome.
2nd time I turned up, having learned a tune and song specially for his acoustic folk club night, he said - " hey, we've just decided to do the open sess. with a mic. and PA tonite, to train folk tae do it right". On with the brown troosers!..... Tae cap it all, just as I'm aboot tae dae ma spot, he says "Hey, we've just got the streaming link sorted, so we're goin' out live on the net tonite" Change brown troosers!

Rob,

Okay, fine, make me laugh so hard I spill tea on my entire workstation. Go on, do. Really. :P

Ah well. We've got Mudcat, who needs work?

Yes, Dougie is a gem. Or, as my co-workers at the Jewish Community Center would say, "Oy gevalt, such a mensch!"

(I'm often teased by my best friend about being a nice Irish girl trying to pass for Jewish. I shoot right back that she, being a nice Jewish girl who hangs out at Biddy McGraw's and dates Irish musicians, certainly ain't one to talk. ;))

Moll
Lovely story from Dougie, via one of his employees (nameless, of course);
He's in the company of a Classical ensemble leader (Scottish Chamber Orchestra, I'm led to believe)
"Real" musician offers D.M. a shot of his new, hand-made, six grand "VIOLIN" bow; Dougie tries it fer a while, then comments :- "Aye, it's a' right, but ma £16 glassfibre Chinese yin daes me just as well, --- an' ah can catch trout on mine, too!"

"Snaigow" (the name of Dougie's parent's house at the time) was the third of four album Dougie made for the "Plant Life" label. The first when he was a member of The Tannahill Weavers", the second as the Roberts/McLean Duo and the fourth a second solo album. "Plant Life" was owned by the drummer of Steeleye Span, and gave a number of artists such as Wiz Jones, Rosmary Hardiman and Johnny Silvo a chance to get a record out. I cannot remember seeing anything the label put out released on CD. I wonder if this is another label Dave Bulmer bought up and is sitting on. (This is speculation - I don't know).
Dougie put out another album with Roberts and Alex Campbell on a different label and also recorded a further solo one for Richard Digence's Dambuster label, (this on came out after he had formed "Dunkeld" his own label.
If anyone is interested I can post the album numbers and details tomorrow when I get home to my records,
love,john

John,

Well, I actually live in Portland, not Seattle...but Conor was down here last Saturday night playing Biddy McGraw's with Mikey Beglan (much to his misfortune, as Mikey, methinks, had imbibed a wee dram too many). I'll tell him next time (or next time I go up to Seattle :))
