Is there anyone going to Whitby this weekend?? It is the Shanty Festival over the saturday and Sunday which in general is very laid back but quite a good knees up -are Baggywrinkle up for it Michael?

Sorry for not seeing this earlier but I've been FAR too busy in work. The Baggies will be at Whitby. Two of us are travelling tomorrow, Wednesday, on the train ETA The Pier 6.30 ish, the others are travelling Thursday morning
We're in Staithes on Thursday evening and sometime Friday, then Whitby Friday evening and Saturday (I think).
Songs in the Endeavor this year, be nice to see John and Rose again as I missed them in Hull because of the other one (Scarborough).

Not that I know of. You could try e-mailing the organiser [e-mail] but then again who knows where he'll be?
Captain Cook week is a weekend in Middlesbrough, then a couple of days in Stockton on Tees, couple of days in Staithes and finishing off with a weekend in Whitby.
From the information I've been given the Whitby performances will be in The Pier Hotel, The Endeavor and The Plough Friday Saturday and Sunday. Who and times ???

You could try - captaincook.org.uk - I believe that's the Tourist information centre or phone [phone] for the Whitby Captain Cook Festival information. Great night in the Klondike last Saturday night. If you come and see any of the Keepers Lock performances, stop and say hello.

I'm back ater an 'orrible 17 hours travelling.
Left Whitby 0852 Monday morning and via Middlesbrough, Manchester, Euston, (Shrewsbury being flooded had to go the pretty way), an hour and a quarter on the undergroung due to the Central and District lines not running, Paddington and a £45 taxi ride from Cardiff to Swansea finally arrived home 0140 Tuesday morning absolutely f..f..f..f..fatigued. Was it worth it? BLOODY RIGHT IT WAS!
Highlights of the weekend for me, guest-wise, LocTup Together and Keepers Lock, what a treat.
Unfortunately, Saturday afternoon, I got the ague. Shivering and shaking and sweating and 4.30 bed with a couple of paracetamol so I missed the concert, Sunday morning great.
Sunday evening, good anti-shanty session in the Tap & Spile and a pleasant surprise. I'd just sung "Manchester Rambler" when this bubbly, smiley, buoyant lady came up to me and said "You're a Mudcatter aren't you?" I asked how she knew and she said "'Cos I am as well. I'm Ickle Dorritt" Another mystery solved.
Whitby's the last festival of the season it seems a long time to Easter and Lancaster.

Michael in Swansea Sorry to hear that you had a ffff...pretty awful trip back from Whitby. Fortunately Keepers Lock travelled back to the depths of Wiltshire and Bristol on Sunday by motor transport. Although the journey was horrible, it only took me 6 hours to get back to Bristol. I must be honest and own up to probably being one of those maniacs, travelling too fast, in the outside lane.

You might like to try "Bitter End Web Page" for details of both national and international Sea Shanty Festivals But I don't think the 2001 programme is up and running yet?

I do know that the Swansea Maritime & Shanty Festival is on the weekend of July 7th-8th. 2001

The Mumbles Maritime Festival is on the 11th & 12th August, 2001.

Now, Captain Cook is the name of a town on the west coast of the island of Hawaii, just uphill from where the good captain met his untimely end. So how about all you folks coming to do a Captain Cook shanty festival out here? It would do my heart good to sing shanties again. And the weather's not half bad, especially when it's bleary in blighty...

I for one can't afford travel outside my neighborhood, but we were lucky enough to have Richard Grainger at our chantey sing in San Francisco this past Saturday. He finished off with a great song about Captain Cook. Mark, if you're in Hawaii, we're a lot closer--come sing chanteys with us!

Just for the record, all you guys on Mudcat have really opened up my life to a new level of enjoyment. Thanks.

Had a wonderful weekend hotly pursued by raging temperature and viral infection so I am Michael no longer bubbly and bouyant although I am sure I will be shortly. Many thanks to all performers -it was a great weekend and I also enjoyed the folk session in the Tap and Spile on sunday. I have just changed internet provider so for those of you I have said I would email with various bits and bobs I do apologise for the delay but I am still trying to get it sorted.
