If this is The Girl I left Behind Me, we have a dozen or so versions in the Digital Tradiation - blue search box - search for [left behind me] including the brackets

Can't help you with the song, I'm sorry, but Bobby Watt is a big generous spirit who has been a friend of the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival since his first visit here to perform. A talented stone mason, he installed a new back door in our bandstand one year, I think at his own expense, and he has MC'd also. He likes to promote singer's rights at sessions, and he's got some recordings which have sold well around here. He'll join you for a beer too.

Peace. Mooh.

Subject: Lyr Add: THE GIRL I LEFT BEHIND (Bobby Watt)

The song is called The Girl I Left Behind... Bobby co-wote it with Holmes Hooke who wrote the lyrics... It's off Bobbys album Homeland... I get a lot of miles out of a few songs ...

It's a great song in DADGAD... goes mostly just back and forth from D to G.. with the exception of The girl I Left Behind is D, A, D...

The Girl I Left Behind

Sure I was never one to write was always on the move
So I lost touch with life back home I heard so little news
Then after many years away I made up my mind
To journey back to my hometown
And the girl I left behind

The church clock struck the morning hour as I arrived in town
the sharp chimes pealed away the years with their old familiar sound
And left me there to walk the streets To wander back in time
And in the square I met so fair
The girl I left behind

We looked a long time at each other both afraid to speak
Then she softly laughed and wiped away a tear from off her cheek
Is that really you she said after all this time?
Sure you're the boy who went away
I'm the girl you left behind

we sat down on an old stone bench in the fragile autumn sun
We talked about our lives apart and the thing's we wished we'd done
She said she'd never married sure, had offers in her time
But had waited for the boy to come
For the girl he left behind

As we watched the sun go down she prepared to leave
I asked if she were of a mind to come on back with me
Ach no she said it's too late for that sure your offers very kind
But I've got used to being called
The girl he left behind

In the shadow of a streetlight we silently embraced
The darkness at the parting time made it easier to face
And when she turned into the night I heard the church bell chime
And once again I bade Farewell
To the girl I left behind

Have you noticed a sudden increase in Lyric requests of songs that I know and play a lot of late??

LOL!!
