"53", I'm guessing that your post was intended for another thread?? If so, please point us to it. My experience has been that Mudcatters in general are happy to help and answer questions. |

Subject: RE: Warning: Boring Thread Alert!! From: Benjamin Date: 11 Aug 01 - 02:49 AM This rainbow hasn't been built yet? I'll add orange to the list (it hasn't been said yet has it?). Subject: RE: Warning: Boring Thread Alert!! From: GUEST,SharonA Date: 10 Aug 01 - 02:02 PM Sorry not to respond sooner to your question, GUEST, but I've been on vacation. I've heard of Bertie the Bunyip (or was it Bernie?) from my older brothers, but I'm of the "Kukla, Fran and Ollie" era... also "Crusader Rabbit and Rags". Also, thanks for posting the songwriter of "I Can Sing a Rainbow"! I just hope the lyrics I posted are correct; I was typing from memory. LR Mole, I'm guessing you enjoy Winslow Homer's sea scenes, with his brown/green/greys and shale blues? Wonderful stuff... and, as with all paintings, the reproductions in books do NOT do justice to the colors. |

It's about the palest colour I like, cos I usually go for dark colours, especially in my clothes. I always wear dark colours (I'm currently wearing a dark red tracksuit and my Mudcat Tshirt!), and I'm only just going back to being normal after a Gothic phase! |

I've been doing that ever since I can remember, in fact one of my favourite pastimes when I was a child was describing the "scenes in colour" which I "saw" when listening to certain music. Subject: RE: Warning: Boring Thread Alert!! From: SharonA Date: 04 Aug 01 - 01:49 PM Just about every color! ...okay, I'm partial to blues, teals, turquoises, indigos, burgundies (the whole blue-purple range that sneaks into blue-greens and purple-reds) There used to be a children's TV show in the Philadelphia PA area called "Captain Noah and His Magical Ark". Here's his theme song (I don't know if the minister-actor who played Capt. Noah wrote it): Red and yellow and pink and green Purple and orange and blue I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, Sing a rainbow too. Listen with your eyes, listen with your eyes And sing everything you see. I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow Sing along with me. Red and yellow and pink and green Purple and orange and blue I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, Sing a rainbow too. |

From: mousethief Date: 16 Nov 00 - 01:49 PM As St. Clive says, the best way to get kids to read the good books is to have a bunch of them within easy reach, then specifically forbid them to read them. Matt, have you read the page about the identity of Tom Bombadil? Fascinating. I'll try to dig up the URL if you don't have it already. Experiments show that people get agitated around too much red, and are soothed by greens and blues.

Subject: RE: Warning: Boring Thread Alert!! From: Lonesome Gillette Date: 16 Nov 00 - 01:26 PM I remember a friend of mine painted his whole apartment black. It was the rock and roll, hipster hangout. I lived at the other side of the continent at the time so I only got the pleasure of the place once but I'll never forget it. That place was depressing, cramped, dark... My favorite is deep yellow orange, it's a very particular shade. I like all yellow but this one is like a manilla (spelling?) envelope but richer, deeper. When I see it I am instantly attracted to it. There is a crayola crayon this color, I'd always use up that crayon first. Eric |
Subject: RE: Warning: Boring Thread Alert!! From: Tig Date: 16 Nov 00 - 12:11 PM I assure you that it is not for the want of offering our offspring Tolkien to read that she does not know the origins of her middle name. I think it's a case of 'books suggested by parents are NOT to be read'!!! I've enjoyed reading this thread. The colour choices tell me a lot about fellow Mudcats. I just hope Firecat doesn't decide she wants to paint her bedroom ALL the colours at once. |
Subject: RE: Warning: Boring Thread Alert!! From: hesperis Date: 15 Nov 00 - 10:17 PM Purple! Of course :) I love every colour the way Matt loves every song. There are a couple of puke colours that make me want to do that yucky action, but everything else has it's place in my heart. Earth tones, burnt ochre, sienna, even yellow ochre, though that gets close to puke sometimes. Dark terra cotta, burgundy, claret red... forest green, clear leaf green, artemisia 'silver frost' green... Indigo is a glowing colour, midway between ultramarine and deep violet. The colour of a sky just past sunset, as seen against an off-white windowsill glowing warm light against cool darkness. That's indigo. Actually, my favorite colour is a slightly iridescent deep purple. |

Subject: RE: Warning: Boring Thread Alert!! From: Kim C Date: 15 Nov 00 - 10:43 AM Red. Absolutely Red is my favorite color and has been for years. I have come to realize that I really am full of fire and passion, so red suits me. I also like green very much too. My eyes are green (and greener with the help of contact lenses! you can sorta see it in my picture) Red and green are opposites on the color wheel so I don't know what that says about me exactly. I am also very fond of sapphire blue, as sapphire is my birthstone. I am learning to like purples (they look good with red and green!) but I have not been able to like yellow. It is not a color that I feel looks good on me unless it's an accent for other colors. I sometimes like to look at yellow - but not on me. :) |
Subject: RE: Warning: Boring Thread Alert!! From: GUEST,Matt_R Date: 15 Nov 00 - 10:29 AM What a beautiful choice for a middle-name! Ha ha, a Middle-Earth middle name! Arwen Undomiel, also known as Evenstar, was the daughter of Elrond Half-Elven (son of Earendil the Mariner) and Celebrian (daughter of Galadriel of Lothlorien). She lived most of her life in Rivendell with her two brothers Elohir and Elladan, until she met Aragorn, then known by the name Estel (Hope) so his destiny and lineage would be unknown to the enemy. They fell in love....sigh! Here is some more about Arwen. --Matt (Tolkien scholar) |
Subject: RE: Warning: Boring Thread Alert!! From: Mooh Date: 15 Nov 00 - 09:46 AM The colours of nature I like best, greens, browns, blues, even black. Autumn trees. Subject: RE: Warning: Boring Thread Alert!! From: GUEST,Fibula Mattock Date: 15 Nov 00 - 08:36 AM Green, because the human eye can identify more shades of green than any other colour, and there's so much of it in nature. Blue, like the sea on a stormy day - grey-blue and wild. Red, especially Pompeii red (the Pompeii frescoes have this amazing, unique colour that has not been recreated to the same intensity by modern means). Put 'em together and you've got RGB - the most common method of defining and rendering colour in computer graphics, and the topic I'll be working on for the next 3 years. Colour is amazing. |
