I have been exploring internet radio programmes for some time now but have yet to hear any unaccompanied folk . The majority of songs are contempory and all songs are accompanied. Although I have enjoyed what I have heard - can anyone direct me to a more traditional site ,please ?

Try radio from Ireland. In particular, check out the archives of the Ceili House program. http://www.rte.ie/

Depends on where you are. Do you get "Thistle and Shamrock" on public radio? Where are you (geographically)?

I just looked at what I've got planned for tomorrow's Folk Roots/Folk Branches program and see that there are three unaccompanied folk songs on the list.

Bob Blackman, in Lansing, Michigan, does a special all unaccompanied singing program on his radio show at least once a year. Unaccompanied harmony singing is his favorite genre. Pat Walke in Iowa frequently uses unaccompanied selections on her radio show. Hers is a very tradition-oriented program. I'm sure there are others.

The Thistle and Shamrock is a great program, in my opinion, but you must realize

it is not focused on unaccompanied singing.

You may hear that once in awhile, but not the majority of the program. In case you didn't follow the links at that NPR page, here is how to listen to the program internationally:

Check out "SMITHSONIAN FOLKWAYS WOMEN" on live365.com. I know there are unaccompanied singers in the Folkways catalog. Just heard Jean Ritichie.
