I am seeking lyrics and music for any Israeli peace songs. There is one in particular which I think is called Shir LaShalom. I would like the words - Hebrew but in English characters and/or a singable English translation

You might try checking a web site or a search engine for Gidi Alon. He recorded this song many years ago---as, I suspect, have others.

Another good song--praryer---Oseh Shalom Imramah (a transliteration).

I am disappointed at receiving only one reply. Surely someone out there has the words I'm looking for? Perhaps Israel is too sensitive an issue?

Tara Publications (http://www.jewishmusic.com/) has some nice songbooks that can be ordered on-line. I have their book THE INTERNATIONAL JEWSISH SONGBOOK. It has English transliterations and a bunch of peace songs, including Al Kol Eleh, Machar, and Hamilchamah HaAchronah. You can get an accompanying tape.

Don't be a whiner. You pouted after only 24 hours. People here generally are extremely generous with their time & responses. Besides, there are literally thousands of Jewish resourses on the web. If youda seeked youda founded text, translation & tune at http://campuscgi.princeton.edu/~klez/zemerl/show.pl?title=Shir+LaShalom. Now go behave yourself.

Thanks for the useful link and Michael K's clicky. To Abby Sale: I was upset by being described as a whiner and told to behave myself. I often get irritated about things people write to the forum but I wouldn't dream of insulting them. Of course I could do my own search for the information I wanted but I haven't got hours to spend, nor can I afford the phone bills it would generate. Besides, what would be the point of the forum if people did their own searches?

Hello Karen. For some reason I wasn't able to open this thread any of the times I tried to view it on Thursday, so I didn't see it until today.

Shir Lashalom

Chorus:
Lachayn, Rak Shiru Shir Lashalom
Al Tilchashu Tefila
Mutav Tashiru Shir Shalom

Hari'u Lashalom

Chorus:
Lachen Rak Shiru ...

Let the sun rise and let the
Morning shine through. The
Purest prayer will never bring
Us back to life.

He whose light is out and is
Buried in the dust, cannot be
Revived, even with
A bitter cry

No one can return us from
The dark pit. No
Victory celebrations or songs of
Praise will help us.

Chorus:
So, just sing a song for peace.
Don't whisper a prayer. It is
Better to sing a song of peace
With a loud voice.

Let the sun pierce through the
Flowers. Don't look back
Leave the fallen
In peace.

Raise your eyes in hope,
Not through a gun sight.
Sing a song for love and
Not for war.

Don't say, it will happen some
Day. Bring the day yourself,
(Because it is not a dream). And
In all the squares, cheer for peace

Chorus:
So just sing ...

Karen: Who can blame you for being upset by such a brusque reply? I know a number of people who are deterred from posting on this site for fear of being the victim of pompous retorts. But as the Internet goes, there are worse places.
