I am at this very minute at the Vail St. Cafe, Arlington Hts., IL. We're having an open mic and it has been a beautiful and eclectic night.

Right now Derek, Paul and Dan are playing guitar and bongos and reciting verse. All are in their late teens, early twenties and they are very good aat "winging it". So far we've had a drum circle, a gentleman who sang old country, a rumanian guitarist/violin duo, and a coupole of really good acoustic singer/songwriters (no navel gazing!!).

Tonight is a good night, here in Arlington Hts.

Good on ya! Wish I was there, but I'm a bit to the north. Is this a regular event, or a one-nighter?

Right now I am here, wistfully wishing I were there. But nonetheless, I am here. And that being so, I will content myself with here.

At least, my Rare and Precious Jewel is here with me.And she makes here quite palatable!

I'm home again. The Vail is a "cyber cafe", with four internet access machines available for anyone to use. They have great coffee and pastries.

The music has been a regular feature at the Vail for years. Some of the best local acoustic groups and singers have appeared there at one time or another. Music had been discontinued for about a year while there was major construction in the downtown are of Arlington Hts. They depend on walk-in business and there was no place to walk!

I started playing there again in July and started running the open mic in August. It takes place on the second Saturday of the month; on the second Friday they have a poetry open mic. It's strictly tips, but there have been some pretty good nights (and some pretty lean ones, too). But it's never been about the money.

Anyway, a good time was had by all. Sorry you couldn't all be there. Next week I'm there playing all night long; well, from 8 - 10. Music is fun.
