Subject: pure trivia, sorry! From: Morticia Date: 21 Nov 00 - 06:53 PM I apologise in advance to all those people who think we get more than enough BS on here but, truth to tell, I'm fed up, I have toothache and I can't sleep......so....on Paltalk the other night we were having a really giggly time, talking about the strangest places we'd ever fallen asleep ......usually whilst under the influence. Mine was the night, at a party, where I carefully and precisely removed all the logs from the fireplace, stacked them up neatly to one side and then proceeded to curl up in there ( I should add that I'm only 5'1") and sleep soundly until morning. Anyone else willing to admit to past foolishness? |
Subject: RE: BS: pure trivia, sorry! From: SINSULL Date: 21 Nov 00 - 07:00 PM Not I. It is only recently that I can sleep anywhere but a bed. But my younger brother once crawled into the eaves to hide and fell asleep. That's where the police found him when my hysterical mother called them to report a kidnapping. |

Subject: RE: BS: pure trivia, sorry! From: mousethief Date: 21 Nov 00 - 07:03 PM I've fallen asleep singing in choir at church. I am told I went on singing the whole time (it was a song I knew really well!). When I jerked awake, however, I was a little disoriented and may have dropped a word or two. Weirdest damned thing I've ever experienced. Alex. |

Subject: RE: BS: pure trivia, sorry! From: Jon Freeman Date: 21 Nov 00 - 07:43 PM I mentioned this one in the Paltalk conversation here is the tale: I was living in Kent and my parents had just sold up and moved to North Wales. I went to a party and got pretty drunk and when I passed my parents old house, I decided I was too tired to go on any further and that as the house was empty, I would break in and sleep there. Anyway, I did this, and wrapped myself up in a carpet to keep warm. I woke up to some noise the following morning and saw people. I got up and opened the door - faceto face with the new owners! - They were OK about it fortunalely, they thought it was quite funny. Another one I mentioned was sharing a bed with a disabled bulldog. Jon |

Subject: RE: BS: pure trivia, sorry! From: Wavestar Date: 21 Nov 00 - 08:42 PM I once fell asleep in one man's lap and woke up in another's. Not drunk, any of us... and all entirely innocent. Bloody confusing, though. Then there was the time when I was fifteen that I fell asleep on the floor of a frat house a bunch of my friends were visiting (shockingly enough, again no drink involved. We were there to play the card game Magic. If you don't know, don't ask.) I wasn't playing, and it was three in the morning... but they forgot I was with them, and left me sleeping, jailbait, on the fraternity floor. Fortunately one of them remembered, came back, and woke me up, a move for which I will forgive him many things. I've since joined the fraternity just next door to that one, and they're harmless enough, but it didn't seem that way at fifteen, and I doubt the cops would have understood either. Lots more, but why share all my embarrasing secrets? -J |
Subject: RE: BS: pure trivia, sorry! From: sophocleese Date: 21 Nov 00 - 09:08 PM When I was 12 my family spent a year travelling and camping around Europe. It took me years afterwards to get used to sleeping in the same bed for more than a month at a time, I would take my blanket and pillow and go to another room and sleep on the couch or floor. I liked sleeping in cold rooms but my dad got angry (with reason) if I opened my window in January (I mean, we are talking Ontario, Canada) so I moved my bed into the basement and left the outside door open a crack. Mom would wake me up by stamping on the kitchen floor and then I'd remove the blanket of outdoor cats I'd acquired overnight. One November night at University I decided to find out if fallen leaves would be a warm enough bed for the night. I slept reasonably soundly (except when woken up by a drunken friend attempting to scare me) but when I went into the dining hall for breakfast people asked me if I'd seen the poor homeless guy sleeping in the leaves. |
Subject: RE: BS: pure trivia, sorry! From: Helen Date: 21 Nov 00 - 11:24 PM This is embarrassing, not because of falling alseep in an embarrassing place, but because of my very loud snoring. When I was 23 I started a (very short lived) high school teaching job in Sydney (Oz) which is 100 miles south of beautiful Newcastle. I didn't want to be a teacher and had been searching for another job from a few months before but no luck so far, so I decided to still live in Newcastle and travel down there by train each Monday morning and home again on Friday afternoons. I used to catch the 4am train on Mondays but I could never get to sleep the night before because I hated going to Sydney and hated the job, so I used to pick a seat where I could sleep in peace, alone in one of those quaint old 6-8 seat compartments. We had to change trains halfway and then the commuters would get on and the other sleepers like me had to sit up in a carriage with lots of seats. I would do my best to stay awake, but inevitably I would fall asleep again. I will always carry the visual memory of getting off the train with every eye on me, and everyone watching me would have a very strange look on their face. I had obviously regaled the whole carriage *again* with my very loud snoring. The worst thing was that I could do nothing about it, at all, but at least there was one compensation: I would never ever get to talk to any of these people or get to know them. Big city folk don't make a point of getting to know each other. So I was basically an anonymous person. Helen PS: Still no cure for the snoring. |

Subject: RE: BS: pure trivia, sorry! From: rangeroger Date: 22 Nov 00 - 12:21 AM After graduating from high school I got a job at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino. I lived on the hospital grounds in a building officially known as the Barracks, but we named it the Boar's nest. Each end of the building consisted of ten rooms on a common hallway, hotel style. At the end was a toilet and shower room. All the hot water was supplied by a central steam plant on the grounds. One day after a night of debauchery, I went in to take a shower. It felt so good I covered the floor with towels, turned all the nozzles on hot and laid down and went to sleep.About four hours later, several of the other residents came in and woke me up.Seems the entire hallway was filled with steam and no one could find their rooms. They thought a water line had broken. to this day I still love long, hot showers.I just need to find that unlimited supply of hot water again. rr |

Subject: RE: BS: pure trivia, sorry! From: Grab Date: 22 Nov 00 - 07:56 AM On a sailing holiday in the Med, I'd sleep on deck (less roasting than down below). Got drunk one night, and went to sleep on deck as usual - or so I thought. In fact I'd curled up on top of a storage locker, jammed into a corner against the combing. At uni, I came back one night and found I'd left my keys in my room, and everyone else in the house was asleep. Luckily I'd put some washing out to dry, so I took that off the line, wrapped it round myself and slept in the porch. I woke up the next morning when one of my housemates went to his first lecture and nearly stepped on me coming out the door. Grab. |

Subject: RE: BS: pure trivia, sorry! From: Giac Date: 24 Nov 00 - 07:57 AM Funny thread, with some all-too-familiar tales.
A few years back I was floating happily on my back at a mountain lake. My dog was tied by the shore so she could play in the water. My head was brushed by some overhanging limbs and I was startled to hear the dog barking, but very far away. Fearing she had come loose and was in some peril, I pulled upright in the water, only to realize I had fallen asleep and had floated all the way across the lake. The dog was just a speck across the water, but was barking furiously, thinking, I'm sure, that if I had the audacity to drown she would be left alone without food. |
Subject: RE: BS: pure trivia, sorry! From: Wavestar Date: 24 Nov 00 - 11:54 AM Indigo and Giac, count yourselves very blessed - I fell asleep while driving for no more than 30 seconds, and had to say goodbye to my beloved little car, which was soundly eaten by a tree. Fortunately, I was not eaten - the only part of the car that wasn't crushed and crumpled was the driver's seat, with me in it. Angels? Sure... sounds good. I just wish they hadn't put the road so there was a tree in it. (Yes, IN it. Not off the road, solidly a third of this very large tree is IN the road.) Helen, I know how you feel about the snoring. I suprised friends the other night because I fell asleep in thier living room the other night, snored once, and then woke up and apologised. I hadn't fallen so soundly asleep that I couldn't hear myself snore... Along similar lines, my best friend once tried sleepng in a bathtub, because she said sleeping next to me was impossible - I snored too badly. The bathtub was apparently worse, though - cold, and the snores echoed. Nothing I can do, though... -J |

It finished quite early so we went for a wee refreshment, the men went home leaving my friend and I still partying. Somehow we managed to loose one another,so I decided I'd walk home. Did I mention it was the beginging of February and about -2C. It's about a mile, not far,so off I meandered. "Feeling fu' an' unco happy". 300 yards from home is a bus shelter with funny wee pull down seats and I needed a rest so I sat down and promptly fell asleep.
