Subject: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Date: 17 Sep 97 - 11:46 AM O. K., so I'm the last person on planet earth to know. Lately, I've waited in vain for hours on end to get into The Mudcat, and nobody else is complaining, so I figure ya'll all know the secret password and I don't. I give up, already! WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? Merde!

Subject: RE: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Squid Date: 17 Sep 97 - 12:02 PM I have also had intermittent problems finding the site http://www.onstagemedia.com/mudcat and I suspect that the server is going on and off line a lot lately.

Subject: RE: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Jon W. Date: 17 Sep 97 - 12:42 PM I've always had problems with "Operation timed out" errors getting on Mudcat. Lately they seem to be more frequent but of much shorter duration. |

Subject: RE: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Sheye Date: 17 Sep 97 - 01:42 PM The Mudcat is part feline and is by nature finicky and not interested in anything around her. I have noticed that 8:00 am in my time zone is when she is away, prowling the alleys of cyberspace and knocking over garbage cans (she is a rather large feline, and they are small garbage cans). It amuses her the way we wait for that temperamentally swishing tail to tell us she's back and waiting to be stroked. Maybe if we use the cookies and milk/Santa approach, she'll come and share a dish of tuna with Hobbes while we're all nestled in our beds, dreaming of our next rendezvous with our friends at the Forum. I may have had too much coffee. |

Subject: RE: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Sep 97 - 03:56 PM I think it has something to do with all those besotten women in the Women's Song Circle. They must be on their tenth round of drinks by now, and the server just can't handle all that liquor. Reminds me of my brother's neighborhood in West Linn, Oregon. On Sunday afternoons, the men gather in the neighborhood pub and drink beer and watch football. The women gather in somebody's house and drink Black Russians and talk about intellectual stuff. At the end of the afternoon, the men walk home. By that time, the women can't walk. By the way, do you think we should explain to Shey that mudcats have fins, not fur? Or do they have both? -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Peter T. Date: 17 Sep 97 - 06:26 PM It might be useful if someone (everyone?) kept track of when the bad times were -- at least until the 10,000 dollar upgrade comes through. (Remember) I have been working under the assumption that there are huge pulses of info being pushed through the system at certain times of day, e.g. 9:00 Eastern Standard Time by all the heavy users. Maybe Max could tellusifthat is part of the problem, or is it just random overuse, so that people don't go on like this. Yours, Peter |
Subject: RE: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Peter T. Date: 17 Sep 97 - 06:29 PM I should have added that the results could be posted and sorted as a warning or advice. Customer feedback loop! Yours, Peter |
Subject: RE: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Dale Rose Date: 17 Sep 97 - 06:39 PM I encountered a new, scary message last night. NOT FOUND ON THIS SERVER Talk about panic! A couple of hours later when I tried again, I got through OK. |

Subject: RE: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Allan Samuels Date: 17 Sep 97 - 09:05 PM This sounds like a Yogi Berra story. When Yogi was asked about a certain restaurant, he said "Oh, Nobody goes there any more, it's always too crowded" |

Subject: RE: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Sep 97 - 01:10 AM Welcome back, Speed. I got lost a week ago when the URL changed, and things have been spotty the last few days. I hope things go a little smoother when we switch to mudcat.org, whenever that happens. Max, when the final switch happens, will our URL be www.mudcat.ore, or did I misunderstand? -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Sheye Date: 18 Sep 97 - 10:46 AM Bob: So THAT's his name! I had no idea who he was, but clued in when he mentioned Saturday night. Had decided that he looked like a Mike. Yep, too much time at the liquor store...but I'll be primed to add my bits to the Women's Song Circle. Joe: The fins belong to the male side ;> |
Subject: RE: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Bert Date: 18 Sep 97 - 12:20 PM Sheye, Is that an extension of the popular belief that 'all cats are female'. So you are saying that 'all catfish are male' |
Subject: RE: Where, oh where, does The Mudcat go? From: Sheye Date: 18 Sep 97 - 12:41 PM Bert: wicked, wicked bait! Ummmm, ok, but not all males are catfish!?! |
