Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Marie's Wedding and Farewell From: GUEST,Fred Burns Date: 30 Nov 00 - 08:28 PM I'll try emailing you the lyrics and chords from the Rise Up Singing book from The Sing Out Corporation, a good source of lots of lyrics, although sometimes they get them a bit mixed up. Another good source is The Folksingers Wordbook from Oak Publications, if you can ever find a copy. I think it is long since out of print but shows up occasionally in used book shops. |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Marie's Wedding and Farewell From: GUEST,CraigS Date: 30 Nov 00 - 10:46 PM Just a remark - the name Mhairi is Gaelic (however you spell it); in Scotland it is normally pronounced "Varrie", in Ireland "Moira". Since the tune is from the Scottish tradition, the former should prevail, but either is preferable to Marie, which in Scotland refers to a kind of biscuit produced by Patersons of Edinburgh (and very nice they are too!). |
Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: MAIRI'S WEDDING From: Seany Date: 01 Dec 00 - 12:34 PM I am using G, C and D
[G] Step we gaily on we go and same for verses
but I have also seen (JC's music site)
[G] Step we gaily on we go If you do a search on Google or elsewhere you can pick up another variation that uses A, D and E7 (not bad ). There is even a further variation that I found but when I tried it, it sounded poor, it must have been wrong. The chords are also in Van Morrison Irish Heartbeat album, fulls sets of chords and lyrics from this album can be found in various places on the WWW. e.g. www.freewebcity.com/vantab/tabs/irish_heartbeat_album.html |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Marie's Wedding and Farewell From: Mrrzy Date: 01 Dec 00 - 12:40 PM We played this for the recessional at our wedding... |
Subject: Chords Add: MAIRI'S WEDDING From: GUEST,Ed Date: 01 Dec 00 - 04:03 PM We play it with one more chord than Seany, probably because we grew up playing 70's rock and roll in various gargages:
[G] Step we gaily [Em] on we go and same for verses; moves nicely into "Hey Baby" and "Blue Moon" Ed

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Marie's Wedding and Farewell From: GUEST,Frank McConnell Date: 01 Dec 00 - 04:49 PM May I suggest to Ed that the correct order for that particular medley should be Blue Moon, Mhairi's Wedding and then Hey Baby ... although, come to think of it, that's not always the order Frank |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Marie's Wedding and Farewell From: Snuffy Date: 01 Dec 00 - 08:19 PM Bernard That wasn't Jehosaphat & Jones, was it? Sounds more like RB & RC being Moira Anderson and Andy Stewart. |
