Hi! There's a great song on Ginny Hawker and Kay Justice's album "Come All You Tenderhearted." The song is called "Cabin on the Hill," and it's by B. L. Shook. There are a couple of words I can't understand. Can anyone fill in the blanks? (See below.) Many thanks!

CABIN ON THE HILL
B. L. Shook

There's a happy childhood home in my memory I can see
Standing out upon the hill in the shadow the tree
If I only had my wish it would give my heart a thrill
Just to simply wander back to my cabin on the hill

Chorus:
Oh, I want to wander back to my cabin on the hill
In the shadow the tree I would like to linger still
Just to be with those I love, joy my heart would overfill
And I want to want to wander back to my cabin on the hill

I remember well the day it is fresh in memory
Watching birdies build a nest in the branches of the tree
In my mind I see the spot near the rippling of the ???
And I want to wander back to my cabin on the hill

Chorus

But the saddest of it all, I could never more return
To the happy childhood home, matters not how much I yearn
But I have a better home where they'll never ???
It's a mansion in the sky and it stands upon the hill

Chorus

I could only find two verses and a chorus here

Fills in a few blanks, anyway.

B.

Hi again. I listened to the recording at the slowest speed, and I was finally able to figure out the words. All of the lyrics are below. Many thanks! JB

CABIN ON THE HILL
B. L. Shook

There's a happy childhood home in my memory I can see,
Standing out upon the hill in the shadow the tree.
If I only had my wish, it would give my heart a thrill
Just to simply wander back to my cabin on the hill.

CHORUS: Ohm I want to wander back to my cabin on the hill.
In the shadow the tree, I would like to linger still.
Just to be with those I love, joy my heart would overfill,
And I want to want to wander back to my cabin on the hill.

I remember well the day; it is fresh in memory:
Watching birdies build a nest in the branches of the tree.
In my mind I see the spot near the rippling of the rill,
And I want to wander back to my cabin on the hill. CHO.

But the saddest of it all, I could never more return
To the happy childhood home, matters not how much I yearn,
But I'll have a better home where there'll never be an ill.
It's a mansion in the sky and it stands upon the hill. CHO.

That is a very good song. The version I am familiar with is :Flatt and Scruggs Lyrics

LITTLE CABIN HOME ON THE HILL

Tonight I'm alone without you my dear
It seems there's a longing for you still
All I have to do now is sit alone and cry
In our little cabin home on the hill

Oh, someone has taken you from me
And left me here all alone
Just to listen to the rain beat on my window pane
In our little cabin home on the hill

I hope you are happy tonight as you are
But in my heart there's a longing for you still
I just keep it there so I won't be alone
In our little cabin home on the hill

Now when you have come to the end of the way
And find there's no more happiness for you
Just let you thoughts turn back once more if you will
To our little cabin home on the hill

My Great Grandpa Bolivar Lee Shook wrote this song. I decided to google his name because my grandma said he wrote it. Wow :)

Bolivar L. Shook was my Grandmother's cousin. we visited him in about 1960. I recall the older folks talking about Flatt & Scruggs recording 'Cabin on the hill'. F & S finally credited that the song was written by Bolivar. I don't think he ever received any royalties, which he deserved and could have used, especially considering his health issues.
