Further to my last message, that was about Lough Erne's Shore.
Edward on Lough Erne's Shore is a different song the lyrics to which are provided above by Brakn.
There are a couple of versions on YouTube and to me the tune sounds like a cross between Boolavogue and The Ould Triangle.

Hi GUEST - see John Moulden's post earlier in the thread. Originally, "Lough Melvin's Shore", it is now usually written as "Lough Erne's Shore" but sung with two syllables as "Er-in' - bit like the "ar-ums`' that feature in many Irish songs!

Hi folks. I've read your posts and I'm delighted to hear that you all love the song, 'Edward on Lough Erne's Shore'. My mother, God rest her, used to sing this song when we were small kids and when visitors would call to our house and we would have a sing song. She had a beautiful voice so sweet and lovely. The air of the song stayed in my head from I was a very young child over 55 years ago. I know the air that my mother sang and not the version that Gaby McArdle sings. Gaby is my first cousin and a brilliant traditional singer. He and I sang this song at my aunts graveside in memory of my mother and Gaby's father. As you can tell, I'm sure, I am very fond of the song as it reminds me of the times when we would sit for hours in our house singing and learning old songs from my mother and father. 'Those were the days' no wi-fi then or distracting boxes in the corners of every room or laptops on everyone's knee, or ipads etc. No, it was all good old-fashioned entertainment back then and it will stay with me forever. I cannot write music but if I ever get the tune I have in my head transcribed then I will post it on this site.

I have found the nice gabriel mcardle version on the claddagh's choice album vol 2 cc40/65cd an anthology of irish trad music 1998

I would love to know any other songs with links to Loch Erne or Fermanagh or Enniskillen (not already featured in the folk book collection they made).

Edmund on Lough Melvin's Shore - which is the original way of the song Edward on Lough Erne's Shore was written by Peter Magennis (The Bard of Derrygonnelly, 1817-1905) and published by him in "Poems by Peter Magennis" (Enniskillen (Geo B White) 1888 but with a preface dated 1887). The tune suggested in the book is "Youghal Harbour" - aka Boolavogue( Hi Martin)

First: Thanks for your help. But: Sorry to disappoint you, Matt, what I'm looking for is definitely a text called "Lough Erne Shore", not "Paddy's Green...". Let me give you a few of the lines I understood; or at least I think I did so:

"One morning, as I were on the fowling, bright xxx ("wee birds"?) sat all around the plain 'Twas down by the banks of Lough Erne I met with this wonderful Dame Her voice was so sweet and so pleasing, her beautiful note she did sing The innocent fowl of the forest their love unto her they did bring."

I got a version of Eithe Ní Uallachain and there's also a version of Andy Irvine - but I just cannot understand what exactly they sing...

Here's the scoop: "Lough Erne Shore" IS a tune from northern Ireland. But that is just the name of the tune. The lyrics that are sung to it are "Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore", which available in the DT. A great song. Similar thing happen with the Scottish tune "The Drunken Piper". That is the tune name, but the song sung to it is called "Far Am Bhi Mi Fhin".

Well, I found a song that has the words "lough erne shore" in it ("The Hills of Tandragee"), but it's not CALLED that. I found a zillion sites mentioning a song by that name, but none gave the lyrics, alas.

Okay, I've tried all the serach engines and lyrics databases but all I found out: "Lough Erne Shore" is supposed to be a "well-known" Irish tune (from Ulster) of which I would like to have the lyrics. Help me! PLEASE!
