Subject: RE: Paltalk Room Open Now 5th Dec From: IvanB Date: 06 Dec 00 - 12:18 AM That's correct. Of course, if you make it in when it's open sometime, someone can usually walk you through the steps to be able to open it yourself. |

Subject: RE: Paltalk Room Open Now 5th Dec From: Jon Freeman Date: 06 Dec 00 - 01:58 PM Shambles opening the room means you have Admin rights for the group rather than just joining as a regular participant and this does carry some responsibility. Admin rights give you the power to take the mic of another user and the ability to use the ultimate sanction, bouncing a person from a room and preveting their return for 24 hours. PalTalk have pretty strong guidelines over the usage of such sanctions and I have to ask that any admin follows these as breaches could result in me loosing my rights to open or administer a group as I am the "Owner" of this room and am ultimately responsible for it. In brief, boucing should only be used as a last resort in response to disruptive behaviour. In the first instance, a private text message should be sent to the offender asking them to stop what they are doing or leave. In most cases, people do see reason and many cases of what has at first appeared to be disruptive behaviour, e.g. someone playing a rock song, has proved to be due to missuderstandings about the nature of this room but occasionally, boucing is necessary. When it has to come to this, it is requested that a reason is given (PalTalk monitor every bouncing of a person). There has some discussion over the role of Admins in the room and there seems to be general agreement that it is preferable to only have one but only one Admin in the room at any time as the others present know who to message in case of problems and there is no cofusion over which Admin is going to deal with a trouble maker, and that whoever is assuming that responsibility should also be prepared to adopt the role of moderator when necessary. This probably sounds a lot more complicated than it really is but some people will feel more comfortable playing this role than others. What I suggest to those who feel ucomfortable but wish to open the room is that they open the room but hand over resposibilities to someone else when possible. I don't know if anyone actually enjoys being Admin but there are certainly a few Mudcatters who have already gained a lot of experience, do a good job and I feel sure would be willing to relieve someone else from the duty. Subject: RE: Paltalk Room Open Now 5th Dec From: The Shambles Date: 07 Dec 00 - 02:13 AM Thank you Jon. Is there any way this info and more on Pal Talk can be permanently displayed on The Mudcat? There does seem to be many folk (incuding me) who do not appear to know this stuff? |
Subject: RE: Paltalk Room Open Now 5th Dec From: The Shambles Date: 07 Dec 00 - 02:21 AM I have just looked in The Newcomers Guide and found the info, but it is a little 'lost' in there. |
