The AAAAARGH! is back, with even more sssssscccaaarrrryyyy ideas and fears!

This is because I took part in a Theatre Studies thing, and Mandy, Stephen and me were sent to the refectory at college for half an hour. When we got back, we were told to shut our eyes and just walk straight across the room, which was pitch black anyway. What we WEREN'T told was that the rest of the group were going to be crawling around on the floor, or whispering in our ears, or howling and screaming, or blowing on our necks. We were also meant to say some lines out of the Dream by Shakespeare but none of us managed it because we were too scared. Not nice!

I'm also gong to see a Gothic horror at the theatre tonight, called Snake In Fridge. It's at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. (The UK one!)

MORE FEARS PLEASE!!!!

Having actors come out into the audience is the worst. Never do that. Never try and involve the audience in your avant-garde play.

yours, Peter T.

YES. When I'm in the audience, I don't want to be embarrased, or proven less ready on the stage (no one gave ME a part to learn), or splashed or pelted or startled by loud noises. It also takes a considerable degree of trust in a performer or gathering for me to "Come on and sing along," but I suppose that's a different issue.

Worse than Actors coming into the Audience, Is when the Audience moves en masse TOWARD the stage!

NOW THAT'S SSSCCCAAAAARRRRYYY!

Cheers

Bugsy

mad drunk men in the audience, who single you out in the breaks... especially if you go to the bar...

having friends at gigs... who have never seen me play before...

and Speaking at conferences... I can sing infront of hundreds of people, and play my music... but speak at a conference or ask a speaker a question... I just go to jelly.. odd!

I have sung at big gigs, sung on my own without backing for St Patricks day, sung in pubs all over Ireland...and sang as the only soprano with a male voice choir... yet still I get spooked if I have to speak at a conference...

What can I do!

Ella, I agree with you - I hate speaking at conferences.
I hate it when you are at a meeting and everyone introduces themselves - they all sound soooooooooo important. I have to have a crib sheet so that I don't forget my name!

I had a similar experience when I was asked to speak at my boss' retirement. I chose, instead, to sing Leave Her Johnny. It went very well and I felt better than trying to speak the usual platitudes.

Thanks! "Snake In Fridge" was REALLY good. As for the actors coming out of the audience, they used that!! It was realy freaky at the end though.

Anybody seen The Ugly? I saw it with French subtitles (which helped me ken the aussie or whatever they were speaking, I think it was a New Zealand movie) - now that was scary, and I still don't know what was real.

I think I'm the only person on Earth who loves public speaking. Not that I don't get nervous, I just enjoy both the nervousness and the speaking... (you already knew I was weird...)

I am not afraid of mice, but my Dad was - one of my very favorite childhood memories is the night the dogs "treed" a mouse up in the living room curtains during a dinner party. We didn't know it was a mouse, the dogs were barking furiously at the curtains, so somebody shook the curtains and when the mouse flew out, Daddy leaped up onto the coffee table, both feet off the floor - and then immediately got down again and pretended that he hadn't! He never did live that one down.

BAAAH!

Tear down the 4th wall... scare the hell out the audience! Get their hearts beating and their blood pumping!!!

What scares me? People actually still line up to see crap like Carousel these days...

"oh honey... it's o.k. that he hits you, because he loves you..."

Then -I- rush the stage!!!

Go see any play written by George F Walker for GOOD theatre!

The best part of Carosel was it's being filmed in Maine.

Patrish... I know what you mean.. I have to have a full list of notes infront of me too... with questions I may want to ask, and the occaisional good word written down, so I sound like I know what I am on about...

People say I sound so composed and clear... But that is only because I am making myself speak slower, and thinking all the time about what I am saying. Inside I have about 100 'little people' running around inside me, kicking my sides and making my legs shake.

And Gary T... lol loads of people at work know I sing in a band.. none of them have actually heard me, this may be an ideal opportunity for me to get them to listen...

Ooo... my worst fear is.........

COCKROACHES........ (Going sweaty thinking about them)

Just recently in Spain.... I was in a phone box... and as I was chatting to my mam I looked up and saw one of those beady eyed sticky sicky crunchy (oh gawddd... feeling ill now) looking down at me... He had me in his sights, was waving his legs at me and was heading my way...

My poor mam was wondering what was wrong with me... Daughther phoning home to say she is okay... But sounding not okay.... I continued my call outside the phone box... as I discovered the cable was long enough. Another one also landed infront of me on the bar, when I was sat at it in one of the bars in Spain....

(disclaimer... not all of Spain is covered in Cockroaches... they are actually quite common there but don't let that put anyone off from going - other than the odd roach it's a lovely place... :)

Enough... ewwwwww

Ella

Not exactly a fear, but not fun. Driving down the road at 70 just this lunchtime, a largish spider appeared out of the roof of the car at the edge of the windscreen, and proceeded to abseil down onto my hand. To the other motorists it must have looked amazing, with me trying to hold the wheel with one hand and steer straight whilst shaking around with the other arm to try and stop the spider vanishing up my sleeve (as it was trying to!). I'm not scared of spiders as such, but I'm not keen on them making a home up my sleeve!

Grab.
