Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Ely Date: 08 Dec 00 - 02:52 PM The first weekend my Mom had all to herself since she'd had kids (my brother and I were 3 and 1), she went to stay with a friend who lived not too far from the Dakota so she could go and see where he was killed. She said she was very sad that he was gone, but especially sad that Sean was left without a dad. |
Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Kim C Date: 08 Dec 00 - 03:52 PM Yep. 20 years. Hard to believe. Seems like it was only yesterday I was a lass of only 13, never heard of a computer, much less the Internet. Things have changed a lot since then. |

Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 08 Dec 00 - 05:36 PM The really sad thing is that all 6 bullets hit John and not one of them took out Yoko Ono!!!! Damn David Chapman for being such a good shot!!! |
Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Greg F. Date: 08 Dec 00 - 05:39 PM Not even close to being funny, jerk. |

Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Dave Wynn Date: 08 Dec 00 - 07:10 PM I believe that John Lennon was good enough to take that apparently unpleasant joke. I reckon he would laugh and forgive it! We should do at least the same! Fire again Clinton..... |
Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Amergin Date: 08 Dec 00 - 10:50 PM Actually, I agree with Clinton and I find it funny.... |
Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Sorcha Date: 08 Dec 00 - 11:21 PM Strange, but this never touched me very emotionally even though I was/am a Beatles fan. I was busy being the mother of a 1 year old and I had other things on my mind. I just thought it was a sad statement about "public people's" lives, and it hasn't gotten any better since. I am glad I am not a "public person". |
Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: catspaw49 Date: 08 Dec 00 - 11:43 PM A&E had a good program on the other night covering Chapman and the killing. I didn't realize he was still conscious for so long. The doctors tried to repair the damage, but it was too extensive which they knewafter they opened his chest. One doctor told of holding Lennon's heart in his hand and the emotion that overcame the ER crew when they realized the wounds were fatal. At the time, I only remember feeling numb and thinking, "What a world." Spaw |
Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Thyme2dream Date: 09 Dec 00 - 03:47 AM I heard about it on the radio on the way home late that night. I had to concentrate very hard to drive through the snow and the tears...got home and played 'Julia' over and over, and cried my heart out for several hours. I still get lil bit misty-eyed when I hear the 'So this is Christmas' song. (might hafta be close to agreein' with Clinton tho...was never fond of that caterwallin' she triedto pass off as singing. On the other hand about the time Paul was putting out that 'Silly love Songs' tripe, I did wonder why it had to be John...) |
Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Thyme2dream Date: 09 Dec 00 - 03:50 AM Oh, BTW voy, he was John ONO Lennon by the time he died...changed his middle name as a protest and a declaration of love an' all. |
Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Matt_R Date: 09 Dec 00 - 07:00 PM Hey, I LIKE "Silly Love Songs"! Don't look back in anger, don't look back in anger... I heard you say At least not today... |
Subject: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 09 Dec 00 - 07:36 PM Hemmingway once wrote "The world is a fine place and worth fighting for..." I agree with the second part... See you after, John... |
Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: MichaelAnthony Date: 09 Dec 00 - 08:29 PM I was in high school and going thru a major Beatles/Lennon phase, like a lot of lonely young people to this date, I'm sure. Music was so important as a way of validating and creating feelings to a small towner...that's what I'm remembering... |
Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Matt_R Date: 09 Dec 00 - 08:45 PM It's a sad day when we want to end someone's life on the grounds that they can't sing. Amergin & Clint, why don't you chip in for a rifle and splatter her brains all over the place? Ah yes, more dead people, that's what this world needs! |
Subject: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 09 Dec 00 - 08:51 PM You volunteering to be first Matt? Lighten up eh kid... There are more people dead than alive... Who dies? Everyone dies... |
Subject: RE: It Was 20 Years Ago Today... From: Ely Date: 10 Dec 00 - 01:53 AM I'm not saying Mom didn't care about Julian, I think she was just identifying with him more because he was younger, and she had little kids. |
