Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: Zebedee Date: 09 Dec 00 - 03:14 PM Shambles, I'm sure you mean well, but your suggestion suffers from a fundamental flaw, in that only those who know about 'loki' will be able to read it. Those whom you wish to alert to the situation won't see it... Ed |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: Banjer Date: 09 Dec 00 - 04:11 PM That is very true Ed, but it appears Shambles has the foresight to realize that once the problems are solved for this particular outtage, folks who were affected will see it and know for next time they have a problem! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: Zebedee Date: 09 Dec 00 - 04:16 PM Banjer, Unfortunately they'll never see it. This thread will disappear in 24 hours. No one (for whom it was meant) will see it. That's what my 'foresight' expects, anyway. Ed |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 09 Dec 00 - 04:39 PM When the random link is working again - www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm - someone can revive this thread. And the opther thing to rmember is that the help URL hardly ever goes down (that is to say help.mudcat.org/), and you can always get direxctin there.
The easiest thing to do is put all the alternatves , and the help URL in a Mudcat file in your favouritew/bookmarks. |

As has been pointed out, it was a way of placing and keeping the various URls on the forum so that folk could bookmark them, for such times as they may need them. If you can think of any more positive ways of helping the situation, great, let's hear it. But even continuing to post here, just to point out the 'bleeding obvious' and also how futile the attempt is, will at least help to ensure that this thread will stay around for a while.

Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: catspaw49 Date: 09 Dec 00 - 06:38 PM Also there Zeb....Exactly what makes you think this thread will be off the page in 24 hours? Shambles did something here that on the face of it may seem silly, but a lot of folks don't know about this and if a few of us would have posted this info when we thought of doing so, as Shambles did, then its not such a big deal to to refresh it a few times when Shorty is up and running. Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Dec 00 - 06:49 PM If only a handful of people see it which they will do, my feeling is that what Shambles posted is more than worthwhile. Mudcat is limping along and people are trying their best to come up with alteraive routes to certain pages, help others, etc. The last thing we need is a debate over how valuable a particular method is. IMO, the most important move people can make is at least to bookmark the Help Forum which as McGrath has indicated tends to be up when some or all of Loki, Shorty and Ragtime is down and there are a few of us who try to check in there regularly to try to offer assistance when things aren't working. Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: CamiSu Date: 09 Dec 00 - 07:06 PM Thank you Shambles! Had this been done before I might have had less frustration from trying (Because I had not read thoroughly), www.loki.mudcat.org! I obviously did finally get it right, as I am here, but it is a great kindness. And now, back up to the top! (For at least another 24 hours) CamiSu |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: CarolC Date: 09 Dec 00 - 07:11 PM Can anyone tell me how to get into the resources pages. I've tried eliminating the www. and putting loki in front of the .mudcat, but I get a message saying that address doesn't exist. Thanks. Carol |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: Jeri Date: 09 Dec 00 - 07:22 PM Oops, Car-oil...I mean Carol. Just posted a response in the silly thread. I think the resources page is actually on Shorty. We're stuck until Monday. (Unless someone knows something I don't, which isn't only possible, but likely.) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Dec 00 - 07:25 PM I've tried too. The lik seems to point to http://loki.mudcat.org/link.cfm?url=http%3A%2F%2Fshorty.mudcat.org%2Fphotos which I can only guess is idirectly pointing to http://shorty.mudcat.org/photos. Jon |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 09 Dec 00 - 07:45 PM One Mudcat resource you can get to via loki, is the auction (http://loki.mudcat.org/auction/threads.cfm).
And Aine's Mudcat Songbook too - but I've lost the URL for that at the moment |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: Jon Freeman Date: 09 Dec 00 - 09:21 PM Aine's songbook is http://www.geocities.com/doireanne/ Jon |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: Zebedee Date: 10 Dec 00 - 01:01 AM 'Hands up in the air' I was wrong. Sorry Sometimes, I take out annoyances in my life on Mudcat, sorry Shambles. I'm actually quite a nice guy.... Ed |

Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 10 Dec 00 - 07:28 AM Thanks for this- I kept trying to get on thru my desktop shortcut all day yesterday- wasn't until early this morning that I remembered all the other bookmarks I have to try to find the place! Now I've just added another bookmark to forget next time... |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: R! Date: 10 Dec 00 - 07:51 AM Thank you! Bookmarked 'em all. I hadn't been able to get in for several days. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: GUEST,JTT Date: 10 Dec 00 - 02:18 PM What are loki, shambles and shorty, and how are they used, please? Mudcat is almost always down when I try to get in lately (I'm trying from Ireland). |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: Snuffy Date: 10 Dec 00 - 06:08 PM JTT loki, shorty and ragtime are the three servers (computers) that share the work at Mudcat. If you can't get into www.mudcat.org, replace the www with loki, shorty or ragtime (loki is usually your best bet). The Shambles is one of the members here at Mudcat. As far as I know The Shambles is male and English, but I could be wrong. Wassail! V |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: Greyeyes Date: 10 Dec 00 - 06:19 PM I may be teaching my Grandmother to suck eggs but I have bookmarked my personal pages on all 3 servers and can often access Mudcat that way when all else has failed. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: Mark Cohen Date: 10 Dec 00 - 06:32 PM Wonderful. Now if I could only find a button for Max to push that would get MY computer working when it isn't.... Aloha, Mark |

Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: Gypsy Date: 11 Dec 00 - 11:09 PM What a handsome laddie-o! But what is that overgrown mandolin? ;) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: The Shambles Date: 13 Dec 00 - 02:28 AM That's not an over grown mandolin, that's my 30 year old, battered and trusty FG-140 Yamaha guitar. I'll go with handsome laddie-o, though. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat down? Try this trick. From: The Shambles Date: 13 Dec 00 - 06:01 AM Next to the guitar, is a nearly 50 year old, battered and rusty Shambles. |
