Over time, I guess, the peaks and valleys balance out for the SYSTEM of members, but not necessariy for each of us as INDIVIDUALS. For some of us, by the time the backlashes and pendulum swings reach a moment of stasis once again, it's just too hard to be here. For example, Max and I are in communication now, but Joe's quote of what he must have felt Max meant was just the last straw, and it was going to come eventually. Joe and I continue to correspond, as well; I decided to choose between friend and forum, in a way. We went around and around, and neither of us bailed out before we'd each had our full say. I guess it will sound patronizing but I was proud of him. But for more reasons that I can say or count, it was a mistake to come back last week. My mistake, no one else's. (Altho it was good to get on a better footing with Kat again.) But I listened to the urgency of people who felt that they needed me to be here in some way, instead of my own seasoned and educated judgment. I don't get that urgency, BTW. I was supposed to be the persistent proselytizer, but here I was, flooded with people telling me what to do, geel, see, think.... "for my own good." I was pretty definite that I wanted to leave it as "Nuff said," and wouldn't you expect that would kinda do it? People SAID it was just that they missed me but in between the lines, in many cases, there was another note of need. I am as available as I ever was, in e-mail. I guess I would say, if you miss whatever you thought I contributed here, CONTRIBUTE IT. Not, good Lord, in MY name, but in your own, or in our Lord's. That's mostly where my touch came from anyway, you must realize that? If you appreciated me enough to miss me, then you understood what I was saying about life well enough to start saying it yourself, in your own way.
So you are each officially granted all the rights and privileges hereunto, if you don't already know you don't need anyone's permission to love people outrageously. What I am learning about sites has let me see the Mudcat in a very new way, too. I see its strengths more clearly than ever, but I see its growing pains more clearly too, and I am writing to Joe and Max about this. I am heartily sorry for causing confusion by having started this thread when, for a few days, I actually thought I could still be a member here. I imagine that after some time has passed, I will drop in from time to time as a guest and I will be open about who I am when I do. I may visit PalTalk one of these days if the smoke damage to my computer ever lets me get there with the Mac I'd just had delivered. And I'd love to know, in e-mail, about any gatherings I can get to. Of course I welcome any news of what people are doing, too, or thinking about. I would ask that any of you who have posted to this thread and keep looking at would please convey for me that I am not going to need a new name, and that I am always glad to be a friend to Mudcat and Mudcatters, from e-mail or anywhere else, and please do feel free to give my e-mail address to people. You don't need to ask me first. I have good filters, if any problems come up. And Bert, you lil devil, I need a favor. Please see to it that my membership is deleted, so that when people who don't know about this PM me for some kind of help later on, they get a message letting them know I am not getting thier message. An error message or something? So that if they see my membername on an old post and PM me, they don't think I just don't care to reply? I asked Max, and I know he is busy.
Thank you all for your encouragement and caring. Let's talk about something OTHER than Mudcat, Mudcat, and MORE Mudcat, when we *meet* again. Best thing you could do for me, and for this whole situation, OK? And pray, if that's what you do. motormice@hotmail.com |

I started off as Roger the zimmer (after the zimmer frame walking aid that someone off-mudcat suggested as suitable to my age and decrepitude) as there are a lot of Rogers here (R in Baltimore, R in Sheffield, Shambles, Katlaughing's SO etc.) Later it occurred to me that this might offend people who really did need a zimmer frame so I changed it to reflect my sort of "folk" interest. You seem to like the blues perhaps BlueSue? Whatever you choose, if someone mocks, just ignore them. I don't get embroiled in the religious threads but I'm glad you're back for your musical and humour input. RtS |

What a load of crap! A tiny group of people who constantly remind us that they don't care what anybody else thinks cannot destroy the good sense and social skills of the vast majority . The toleration level here is at times astonishing. For the eight millionth time, if one of the nasties attacks, IGNORE IT, or post something like "message acknowledged"...and get back to the original point of the thread. If my memory serves my correctly, Max did complain about bickering between people which I am sure is something he doesn't need. To follow up from what Bill has said, you should know the "rules" of taking an Evangelical stance in life pretty well by now. Rightly or wrongly, this will provoke a hostile reaction from some and whether you like it or not, if that is to be your approach, you need to learn how to deal with it without crying to the forum for help and getting involved with pettyness. This is a situation every Christian (and possibly members of other faiths/ beliefs) finds them self in, one that exists in all aspects of life (unless you shelter yourself solely with members of your own faith) and one that to some degree, we all have to deal with. "This place has turning to fighting and nastiness" - not so. There are thorns on the roses, and horseflies inthe meadow, and wasps zoomimg round and a few stings. But that's what picnics are always like. I very much hoe Matt's prediction is not going to happen. If the Mudcat ever does close - and it's a nasty idea - it wouldn't be because of this kind of stuff. It must be a murderous business keeping it upright and running.
Please everyone, send in some loot! How much would you pay to get it back, if it had folded? Quite a lot I suspect. |

I have to admit I was a little put off at first with a perhaps unreasonable concers (as though it was any of my business!) that you might be a self-righteous sort with little substance. It didn't work out that way. Your name was your witness but nothing I saw anyway made me feel you were trying to shove anything down anyone's throats or pass yourself off as anything more than someone who was trying to do the best she could as best as she knew how and was able. Whatever name you choose, I am glad that you are a part of Mudcat. In the net world you can change your name simply by typing something different. No lawyers, papers, etc. I encourage you to take advantage of your freedom here. Who do you WANT to be?
