Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Name is Jack From: Dave the Gnome Date: 22 Dec 00 - 06:32 AM I think the B side is 'There is a man'. If it is try to listen to that one as well - good bluesy/jazzy riffs and scarey words - won't say any more in case it spoils it:-) Best wishes Dave the Gnome |
Subject: Lyr Add: MY NAME IS JACK (John Simon) From: Jim Dixon Date: 20 Oct 07 - 08:55 AM This was recorded by Manfred Mann, but there is contradictory information out there about who wrote it. Most often it is attributed to John Simon, but some sources say Paul Simon or Tony Hazzard. ASCAP says John Simon. MY NAME IS JACK (John Simon) My name is Jack and I live in the back of the Greta Garbo home With friends I will remember wherever I may roam. CHORUS: And my name's Jack and I live in the back Of the Greta Garbo home for wayward boys and girls We all love Jack and we live in the back Of the Greta Garbo home for wayward boys and girls There goes Fred with his hands on his head 'cause he thinks he's heard the bomb, And here comes Superman who really puts it on. There's lots of fun and I love to run up and down the stairs. I make as much noise as I want and no one ever cares. CHORUS There's Carl over there with his funny old hair and he's never sad at all, And when he I grow up I want to run as fast as my friend Paul. There's the prettiest girl in the whole wide world and her name is Melody Mend, And here comes ma with brother Tom who's probably my best friend. Well, Tom is my best friend, my best friend, well, Tom is my best friend. CHORUS |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Name is Jack From: John J Date: 20 Oct 07 - 04:57 PM I recall is was entitled "Excerpt from a teenage opera". John |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Name is Jack From: GUEST,woodsie Date: 20 Oct 07 - 05:05 PM Interesting that the original lyric had the line "... here comes super spade, who really gets it on" Manfred Mann changed it to "superman" Excerpt from a teenage opera has nothing to do with it. That was Keith West. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Name is Jack From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Oct 07 - 01:35 AM I have to confess that in my younger days, I tended ot collect all things Peter, Paul, and Mary. I found a copy of the You Are What You Eat soundtrack in a cutout bin for two bucks, and I had to have it ("Peter" Yarrow was the producer, and did some of the music). I don't think I ever watched the movie, but I did listen to the soundtrack once. Now, if you click here, you can find an entire Webpage of information on You Are What You Eat, including a link to download what may or may not be the entire soundtrack (I didn't try it). And if you click here, you can watch a YouTube video of Manfred Mann's Earth Band performing the song, and it's pretty good.... -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Name is Jack From: Valmai Goodyear Date: 21 Oct 07 - 04:21 AM Ah. From the name of the thread I thought this might be about the parody of Rolf Harris's excruciating song 'Jeg The Peg' as sung in Lewes Bonfire circles. It goes: 'My - name - is - JACK (diddle iddle iddle um) I'm a necrophiliAC (diddle iddle iddle um) Wherever I go Through rain and snow I dig one up And have a go - My - name - is - JACK (diddle iddle iddle um)' But you probably didn't want to know that.
