Subject: Song title? From: GUEST,maggie Date: 29 Dec 00 - 10:04 PM A friend of mine is trying to remember the title of a song he once heard and can only remember part of the lyrics. We thought it sounded a bit like a folk song so I thought I would try this board. The only lyrics he can remember are: "A-round the corner hoo hoo, under the berry tree. A-round the corner, behind the barn, looking for Henry Lee." Any ideas on what the title of the song might be? |
Subject: RE: Song title? From: Gypsy Date: 29 Dec 00 - 10:15 PM Try child number 68 in the DT. Don't know if this is it, but might be a start. |
Subject: RE: Song title? From: Gypsy Date: 29 Dec 00 - 10:16 PM I lied. It is "Around the Corner" and is in the DT. Looks like a cute song. |
Subject: RE: Song title? From: raredance Date: 29 Dec 00 - 10:19 PM Child 68 is a very different song. The one sought is more of a cutesy country/pop song likely done by Lawrence Welk, Mitch Miller, New Christy Minstrels or some such. rich r |

Subject: RE: Song title? From: raredance Date: 29 Dec 00 - 10:29 PM There may be two versions of this, or perhaps an original and a cleaned up one. I don't recall bloodshed in the one I remember (but the blood may have dried by now) and I also recall "Henry Lee" not "Emily". However the tune is the same as in the DT. rich r |
Subject: RE: Song title? From: GUEST,maggie Date: 29 Dec 00 - 10:32 PM I am new to this board so could you please tell me what DT means? |
Subject: RE: Song title? From: GUEST,maggie Date: 29 Dec 00 - 10:35 PM (gee whiz, I sure hope it doesn't mean "die trying") |
Subject: RE: Song title? From: raredance Date: 29 Dec 00 - 10:35 PM That's the DigiTrad database that you can access in the box near the upper right of the page. Type in [around the corner] with the brackets and you will get a short list including the lyrics the Gypsy pointed to. By the time I type this, Gypsy will probably have explained it better. rich r |
Subject: RE: Song title? From: GUEST,Gene Date: 29 Dec 00 - 10:43 PM [Around The Corner] Looking for Henry Lee
Performed by the Carter family with June Carter-vocal; Mother Maybelle-guitar and Anita and/or Helen and maybe Rosie-background singers On the GANNAWAY 50's Grand Ole Opry Video Tapes |
Subject: RE: Song title? From: Snuffy Date: 30 Dec 00 - 08:44 AM The South African singer Eve Boswell had a UK hit with this in the 50s - it was Henry Lee not Emily, and the A's and B's were stressed:
A-round the corner, yoo-hoo Wassail! V |
