Subject: RE: Who are these people? From: folk1234 Date: 03 Jan 01 - 10:04 AM Dear Guest: Perhaps you are the one who asked about a 60's song to which you were trying to find the title and performer. This thread was 3 or 4 days ago. You received no useful info. That happens from time to time, but please don't be discouraged. Collectively, we on the mudcat represent a vast store of knowledge about our music, which we are very happy to share. But sometimes we just do not know the answer. Or put another way, a person how knows the answer, has not (yet) read the thread. For example, about 6 weeks ago I asked for chords and/or music to "Grandma's Song". I thought this was a reasonably well-known song, done by one of our fellow mudcatters, but my request was not satisfied. I might add that I've been on the 'cat for 2 1/2 years, participated in several 'cat events, met about 40 'real mudcatters in the flesh, and have contributed to a number of threads. So please don't feel bad. Keep trying, and if you want, sign up so we can address you by something other than 'guest'. Happy chords

Subject: RE: Who are these people? From: Rick Fielding Date: 03 Jan 01 - 11:11 AM I think I know what "Guest" is getting at. A lotta folks here go to some lengths to hunt down information when someone has posted a question....and then it seems the original poster has just disappeared. Can be a bit maddening, but I think that usually happens when the initial poster is just "passing through". From what I've seen, most here are pretty good at thanking others for the "leg-work". Subject: RE: Who are these people? From: Jed at Work Date: 03 Jan 01 - 11:21 AM It is also possible the original poster gets stuck in the 3D world for a while, and takes a whiule to get back. I know that happens to me, sometimes ... and when I do come back, I don't always pick up where I left off! I received an Email form a Mudcatter pointing out that I had missed a thread posting a question to me. I'd been goe for a week. If she hadn't pointed it out, I'd have missed the question. |
Subject: RE: Who are these people? From: mousethief Date: 03 Jan 01 - 11:21 AM When I look up song lyrics, chords, whatever, I don't do it for the poster. I do it for myself, and the poster benefits. I'm just trying to better my old time. I'm thankful to these guests for being fodder for my ego.

Subject: RE: Who are these people? From: A Wandering Minstrel Date: 04 Jan 01 - 11:25 AM Mousethief, I wish I could be that altruistic. for myself I don't actually demand thanks but when you've transcribed something and listened to it two or three times over I'm sure you would like to know that the original questioner had at least come back and seen your reply? Now guest... what was the question again?? |
Subject: RE: Who are these people? From: mousethief Date: 04 Jan 01 - 11:46 AM Yeah, AWM, it would be nice. And when I am thanked, it makes me feel good, no doubt. But it's one of those things where, if you did it only for the strokes, you'd soon give it up. Ever served food in a homeless shelter or bread line? The recipients very often resent the fact that they are there, and thus the fact that YOU are there. If people only did it for the strokes, it wouldn't get done, and those people would be much hungrier, which is wrong. Hence the people that do it learn not to expect thanks, and thus aren't disappointed when it doesn't materialize. Just some thoughts. Alex |
Subject: RE: Who are these people? From: Sorcha Date: 04 Jan 01 - 01:08 PM I think they are just regular folks who forgot they asked something here, forgot how to get back here, think we are a "Computer Service" instead of real people, or whose Mommies forgot to teach them manners.......covers a lot of ground there, most of the Knowne World. |
