Has anyone heard this tune - I remember it vaguely from my childhood in Scotland - it was a comical little song about a ghost from Dundee who goes to haunt houses in Glasgow town, the chorus goes something like...

Well I'm a refugee from a graveyard in Dundee
and I've come to haunt some hooses in Glasgow town,
Yes I'm a refugee frae a graveyard in Dundee
and I've come to haunt some hooses in Glasgow tow..oww...owwn,
come to haunt some hooses in Glasgow town.

Would be grateful if anyone could provide me with any lyrics to fill in the verses and some more of the chorus.

Cheers.....Jim

Yes, the Singing Kettle does a great version of this on their 'Singing Kettle 3' CD, I think it is. They have a web site. The other songs are good too. Pity they don't do the old Scots' songs anymore, preferring nowadays to be politically correct. Ah well....

I learned the song and from the singing of the late, great Hamish Imlach - but I am almost certain that it was written by the late, great Matt McGinn.

The Dundee Ghost WAS written by Matt McGinn. It is available both on his cassettes and his song book. If you did not get all the verses post another message and I'll type it in.

Don't forget to sing it with a strong accent Jim and pick out some poor woman in the group to haunt Wullie

As for authenticity Jim, the words seem identical to those sung in NE England in the 60's. So they must be right!

I agree with Wullie, accent is an important ingredient.

Regards spookily. GB
