Subject: Lyr. Req; Queen of Argyle From: GUEST,The bloke in the corner Date: 07 Jan 01 - 06:29 PM OK Catters, here's one for you. Many will know the Silly Wizard song 'Queen of Argyle', and a belter it is. Problem is, I can't find the lyrics anywhere, not even on the Café, and we're playing it at a gig in 12 days. We've tried listening carefully to a recording but there are too many uncertain sounds. I've even searched Silly Wizard type pages, but the ones which looked as though they might be helpful no longer exist. Any got the lyrics, or a live link, perhaps? |

Subject: Lyr Add: QUEEN OF ARGYLE From: little john cameron Date: 07 Jan 01 - 07:00 PM Haud on here's the words' drink. In the chorus, sometimes the word "morning" is used rather than "marvel" ... in her smile. Guitar chords Verse: Am Dm Am Dm Dm Em G Am Dm Am Dm C Am Em Am Chorus: Am Dm Em Am Dm Am Em G Am Dm Em Am C Am Em Am Gentlemen it is me duty To inform you of one beauty Though I'd ask of you a favour Not to seek her for a while Though I own she is a creature Of character and feature No words can paint the picture Of the queen of all Argyle CHORUS: And if you could have seen her there Boys, if you had just been there The swan was in her movements And the marvel in her smile All the roses in the garden They bow and ask her pardon For not one could match the beauty Of the Queen of all Argyle On the evening that I mentioned I passed with light intention Through a part of our dear country Known for beauty and for style In the place of noble thinkers Of scholars and great drinkers But above them all for splendour Shone the Queen of all Argyle. CHORUS So my lads I needs must leave you My intentions no' to grieve you Nor indeed would I deceive you Oh I'll see you in a while I must find some way to gain her To court her and attain her I fear my heart's in danger From the Queen of all Argyle. CHORUS (TWICE) LJC |
Subject: RE: Lyr. Req; Queen of Argyle From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 07 Jan 01 - 07:17 PM Strange. There are at least TWO threads with the Queen of Argyll as the topic. And one of those threads has a link to it in the DT database. Yet, I can't find it with the supersearch. Strange. |

Subject: RE: Lyr. Req; Queen of Argyle From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 07 Jan 01 - 08:32 PM This song is, as Jeri says, already in the database. It has also already been posted in two different threads here, presumably by people who, like little john, were not aware that it was already available and who for one reason or another were not able to use the search engine. Argyll is the spelling you get in maps, atlases and the like. These two threads might come in handy: Queen of All Argyll Queen of Argyle There is a .midi of the tune at the Mudcat Midi Pages: The Queen of Argyle [sic] Malcolm |
Subject: RE: Lyr. Req; Queen of Argyle From: Elise Date: 07 Jan 01 - 11:55 PM I always thought the words were "the swan was in her movement and the marlin in her smile". Always thought it strange that a beautiful woman should smile like a fish. |
Subject: RE: Lyr. Req; Queen of Argyle From: GUEST,menzze@web.de Date: 08 Jan 01 - 09:34 AM Try if ya can find the record "Album 1994" from the german band "Subway to Sally" They recorded maybe the most strange but as well the most interesting version of this song i've ever heard and i know at least seven different recordings of it. You also find an intersting one on "Sunken Treasures" from "Tempest" |

Subject: RE: Lyr. Req; Queen of Argyle From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 08 Jan 01 - 08:32 PM Well, that now makes five examples of exactly the same set of lyrics available on just this one site: an embarrassment of riches, indeed, though just perhaps also a bit of a waste of effort... Malcolm |
