Subject: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: GUEST,sigewif Date: 12 Jan 01 - 05:09 PM Does anyone know what happened to The Cyber Hymnal? I can not find it. It was one of the best resources on the web for hymns. It had this address which does not work anymore for me. http://tch.simplenet.com Current Address: http://cyberhymnal.org/ (2008, as it was in 2001) |
Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: Jeri Date: 12 Jan 01 - 05:14 PM It has moved to http://tch.wordnic.com/. |
Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: Zebedee Date: 12 Jan 01 - 05:15 PM I found it here: Cyber Hymnal Actually I found it by typing the words "Cyber Hymnal" into the Google Search Engine (www.google.com). It was the top result.
Ed Link fixed. --JoeClone |
Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: Burke Date: 12 Jan 01 - 05:51 PM Use Jeri's link. The one Zebedee gave looks like an index to it, but all it's links go to the old URL's instead of the new ones. |
Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: Zebedee Date: 12 Jan 01 - 06:27 PM Burke, Thanks for pointing that out. Sometimes I trust Google too much. Ed |
Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: catspaw49 Date: 12 Jan 01 - 07:44 PM Cyber Hymnals are used exclusively at the Landover Baptist Church. Spaw |
Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: Zebedee Date: 12 Jan 01 - 07:57 PM Thanks for the link Spaw, I'd not heard of the site before and I found it highly amusing. Given that almost all wars are a result of religious intolerance, I'm not sure if I should be amused. Ed (being a very wet liberal tonight) |
Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: sophocleese Date: 12 Jan 01 - 08:32 PM Thanks Spaw for the site. I am now saved and ROTFL. Satan's dirty finger ain't coming near me, I'm flying on angelwings. |
Subject: This Is Why You Should All Learn Esperanto From: Haruo Date: 13 Jan 01 - 12:11 AM For about a month now my online hymnal has had a prominent notice (in Esperanto, of course) explaining where The Cyber Hymnal went and how to follow it. It was originally at http://tch.simplenet.com/. Then, suddenly and without warning, it moved to http://www.wordnic.com/~tch/. And then, about two weeks later, it moved again! to its present and hopefully final resting place, http://tch.wordnic.com/. I'm not sure if simplenet went TU or what. It was very annoying, especially the second time, because I had just gone and changed my main links and started to change the hundreds of lesser links to it. Hundreds, I mean it. Irritating. Spaw, thanks for the Landover link. That really is an outrageously funny site at times (it changes constantly). Understand (could be urban myth) it was started by a couple of guys who got kicked out of Jerry Falwell's Liberty University for trying to bring diversity of opinion and serious humor to the school's radio station. Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Jan 01 - 12:18 AM I check in there every so often to see what's new and pull a site or two to use later around here. Awhile back, I found one there and used it tonight in another thread on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I hadn't heard the story myself so I don't know if its truth or legend, but those guys put together a funny site! Spaw |
Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: GUEST,Sigewif Date: 13 Jan 01 - 12:32 AM Thank you for the help. I thought someone here would know where it went.It has been really fixed up nicely since I was there last.

Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: Haruo Date: 13 Jan 01 - 02:25 AM And speaking of hymns and Landover Baptist and hell and whatnot, let us never forget to visit Dance the Millennium Away not to mention the page it originated on (it's not there any more, but there's some really hilarious email correspondence between its creator and self-described Christians who dislike it). Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: Liz the Squeak Date: 13 Jan 01 - 06:19 AM I loved the dancing Jesus when I first found it, linked to the infamous dancing hamsters..... As a Christian who read with disbelief the religious sects and scisms that arose over the question did Jesus laugh, I was amazed that it hadn't been bounced by someone!!! Personally I reckon he had a great sense of humour, and I hope he laughed like a drain whilst here, because looking back (and down on it) he hasn't had a great deal to laugh about what his followers have done in his name since! Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: catspaw49 Date: 13 Jan 01 - 10:01 AM Liland, I have linked ol' Dancer there about 20 times around here as the answer to innumerable questions. We also get requests for "Plastic Jesus" almost everytime that Cool Hand Luke is on TV!!! WE actually have had a couple of pretty entertaining treads on it in the past with lots of verses and background info. Spaw |
Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: Haruo Date: 13 Jan 01 - 01:57 PM Since I seem to be the only Esperantist around here, I probably wouldn't get anywhere with a Lyr Req for "Dancing Zamenhof" - I learned snatches of it in 1972 but would like to know more. The only parts I recall are I don't care if my wheels are comin' off Long as I got my Plastic Zamenhof Sittin' on the dashboard of my ca-a-ar! He comes in colors green and pleasant, Shines in the dark, he's incandescent... Further deponent singeth not. It's the only humorous (read "mocking" if you're the touchy sort) song about Esperantism in English that I know. And we know what the Bible says will happen to people who make fun of Esperantists! ;-) Liland |
Subject: RE: The Cyber Hymnal--Can not find it From: Haruo Date: 16 Jan 01 - 07:23 PM They did it again! The URL is now www.cyberhymnal.org. The previous one (tch.wordnic.com) rolls over to it, but who knows how long that will last.... Liland |
