Subject: Big RiB in San Francisco From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 17 Jan 01 - 07:50 AM My eldest son has plans to marry in San Francisco on November 11, 2001. Since this is my first trip to the West Coast (not counting stop overs on the way to and from Vietnam), I want to make it at least a week long event. Hopefully I can visit some Mudcatters and some "folk" events while I'm there. If I begin planning now, I have a better chance at being successful. My son lives on Gratten St., downtown San Francisco. He and his fiancee have not determined the location for the wedding except that it will be in San Francisco. Any suggestions from Mudcatters will be graciously considered. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: BS: Big RiB in San Francisco From: Mrrzy Date: 17 Jan 01 - 03:03 PM If you're there on the first sat of any month, go to the chantey sing that chanteyranger, melani etc. and I were at last month! The SF crowd is a lot of fun, I wish I could come back! Also, eat at The Stinking Rose (a garlic restaurant) - I highly recommend their cioppino. If you don't have it there, have it somewhere... You are in for SUCH a treat! I'm jealous! And SF folks, I've seen/heard RiB in action, he'll be a great addition to the sing, if he knows any seafaring stuff... |
Subject: RE: BS: Big RiB in San Francisco From: Melani Date: 18 Jan 01 - 02:21 PM I checked the calendar--if you come a week early you can make the chantey sing, which will probably be November 3. Call 415-556-6435 for positive info closer to the date. There's also an Irish session every Sunday from 8 p.m.at the Starry Plough in Berkeley--somebody else will have to give you the exact address. Also sea music at Quinn's Lighthouse on the Oakland Embarcadero (the "Oakland Riviera" as one band member calls it) also at 8 p.m. on Thursdays.Hope to see you! |
Subject: RE: BS: Big RiB in San Francisco From: Dave Swan Date: 18 Jan 01 - 05:18 PM Hey Roger, If you don't call, e-mail, or PM us, I'll kick yer butt around the block, ever if you are....uh...bigger. How can I do less than show a post card conspirator all the local dives? Looking forward to seeing you. Dave & Pam |
Subject: RE: BS: Big RiB in San Francisco From: Peter Kasin Date: 19 Jan 01 - 12:11 AM Roger, if you haven't met Dave and Pam yet, you should know that they're a total kick in the head to be around. You'll have a great time if you take them up on the offer. What kind of music/other events are you interested in? The chantey sing mentioned will happen on the November 3, and on November 17 there will be a concert aboard the sailing ship Balclutha (performer not yet confirmed, though it's in the hopper-I'll keep you posted), if you're interested in that. The chantey sing is a meeting place of sorts for local Mudcatters, with Dave and Pam, Riggy, Radriano, Melani, Elise, BillD, and Winters Wages getting there pretty regularly, and Bseed, Rev, and Joe Offer having also taking part when they can. (Rev used to host it, before grad school ruined his chantey sing career :-) There is all kinds of food to be had in the city, and I'll be glad to add some restaurant recommendations to Mrrzy's. Just let us know what your tastes are. There's everything from Burmese to burgers here. Hope to meet you then. -chanteyranger

Subject: RE: BS: Big RiB in San Francisco From: GUEST,Roger in Baltimore Date: 19 Jan 01 - 11:55 AM All of this sounds very good and will help me plan how long to stay, where to eat, etc.. My taste in food is exploratory, but I don't like sushi or organ meats. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: BS: Big RiB in San Francisco From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 04 Oct 01 - 08:41 PM OKk, OK. I think my travel plans are solidified. I plan to get into San Francisco sometime on Monday, November 5, 2001. A friend of mine had the nerve to schedule her wedding (number two) on November 3, 2001 and I had to be there. I will leave San Francisco on Monday, November 12, 2001. I am obligated to a rehearsal on Saturday and the wedding on Sunday. My other evenings are free. Any chance San Francisco Mudcatters could arrange a singin' session and greetin' meetin' on Friday night? I will most likely stay in downtown as my son lives on Gratten St.. Post here or by e-mail. The more the merrier I say. Thanks in advance. Roger in Baltimore |

Subject: RE: BS: Big RiB in San Francisco From: Barry Finn Date: 05 Oct 01 - 09:44 PM Sh&%$#@t Roger, passing ships in the night. I'll be missing you, BiB, & Marge, I'm flying back on the 5th. Would've ben fun to start a singing prison riot not sure but last I knew Pam was looking to commit a bunch of these worksongs to her memory. See you all soon, Barry |
Subject: RE: BS: Big RiB in San Francisco From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 03 Nov 01 - 08:56 AM The Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Health Organizations has thrown me a curve ball. They are coming to review the Addictions Program for which I work on November 14 and 15. The boss told me to cut my vacation short. With a some begging and pleading, I will be able to fly into San Francisco on Friday, November 9 and out on Monday, November 11. Throw in a wedding rehearsal and a wedding, and I won't have much time. I am s-o-o-o-o-o-o-o disappointed. I still have Saturday evening free so perhaps I can still hook up with some Mudcatters. PM me if you have any suggestions. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: BS: Big RiB in San Francisco From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 03 Nov 01 - 08:57 AM Oh, yeah. Friday evening should be a possibility, too. Big RiB |

Subject: RE: BS: Big RiB in San Francisco From: GUEST,Roger in Baltimore Date: 17 Nov 01 - 10:32 AM I made it to San Francisco and my son had a wonderful wedding. He has asked me to sing a few songs. I chose Bob Franke's "Thanksgiving Eve" and a medley of Kate Wolf's "Give Yourself to Love" and Laurie Lewis' "Love Chooses You." Dave Swan and I were unable to get together on the limited time I had. His boss wanted him to work, my boss wanted my vacation to be as short as possible. We did chat on the phone for a while. Not all Mudcat connections workout. C'est le vie! Roger in Baltimore |
