Subject: Slowpoke From: GUEST,cowboypoet Date: 20 Jan 01 - 01:24 AM Since my previous request for the lyrics for "Patanio, the Pride Of the Plains" received such generous attention, does anyone have the chords to the old western swing song "Slowpoke"? The version I'm most familiar with was recorded by PeeWee King and the vocal was done by Hawkshaw Hawkins. I understand Neil Young wrote a song of the same name but that's not the one I'm looking for. This one begins, "You keep me waitin' till it's gettin' aggravatin', You're a slowpoke..." Being a four-chord guitar player, there are a couple of changes in there I can't quite figure out. And somebody please ask for a song I know so I can give back a little, willya? |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Slowpoke From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Jan 01 - 10:38 PM Wait a minute here...........I always liked PeeWee as a kid. I love the stuff he did with Redd, they were a great team and all, but I am not up on the Hawkins thing. Hawkshaw Hawkins had a recording of "Slowpoke" but are you sure it isn't a different recording then the King/Stewart Cowboys recording. Y'all sure about this? Spaw |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Slowpoke From: GUEST,cowboypoet Date: 21 Jan 01 - 09:32 PM Well, Spaw, I'm pretty sure. Nobody played hokey pseudo-Western music like Pee Wee King and his Golden West Cowboys, and that's definitely Hawkshaw on the vocals. I've found several references to a Hawkins/King collaboration on "Slowpoke". Here's one: http://vhost.telalink.net/~nsf/king.html 'Course, you can't always believe everythig you read on the 'net (o,-). |
