Many thanks for the info on Ye Jacobites by Name.

There is another song about the Jacobite, Donald MacGillavry. The song goes:

"Donald's gone up the hill hard and hungry Donald's gone doon the hill wild and angry Donald will clear the gouk's nest cleverly, Here's tae the King and to Donald MacGillavry..."

Now, who was Donald?

My recollection from the liner notes of Ewan MacColl's LP of Jacobite songs is that Donald represents the Scottish nation - i.e. he is an "everyman", not a specific historical figure.
