I'm not sure if I spelled the symphony right, but there is a song, I think in a musical, maybe Chess?, to Franz Joseph Liszt's Polynasius, which has been driving me crazy. The 2 phrases I can remember are "fourty thousand (warriors)" ya da da da(this bit I can't remember) "silly thing, stupid king". It's sort of spoken with crowd sounds in the background, cheering that sort of thing. Anyone know what it is? Help?

Perhaps the Polonaise (in E) is what you are referring to? yours, Peter

You can find the lyrics to Chess at http://home.cdsnet.net/~brians/lyrics/chess-lo.txt (London version) and http://home.cdsnet.net/~brians/lyrics/chess-bw.txt (Broadway version). Neither of them contains the word "forty". (However, the London version includes two songs in Hungarian, so that's at least one connection to Liszt.)

Awaking with a blood-curdling scream, I recall that there was a hideous movie called Lisztomania, with Roger Daltrey -- maybe this is the black hole you are looking for? Yours, Peter

Sorrry I haven't been able to reply to this sooner, but I haven't even been able to log on to the Mudcat for the last ten days, due to the incredibly low speed of transmission(12 bytes/sec), and only logged on even tonight after 2 hours of trying. Anyway, thank you all for the help, and most definatly to Peter for giving me the correct name of the symphony, but alas, none of them are what I'm looking for. If anyone has other suggestions, I'm all ears.

Still looking, Catfeet
