Hi

Well I have just seen the thread asking for advice on going pro in the folk scene so I thought that a thread on actually going pro seemed relivent.

I am 21 and play the Piano Accordion in a number of bands. You may already have hearded of 422 but I also play in The Pack, AAAAG, duo with my Dad as well as performing solo.

In May I will be starting work with 'Live Music Now' a scheme which takes Jazz, Folk and classical musicians into venues like special schools, day centres to village halls etc

I also am able to run workshops in accordion - all levels, band arrangments, folk music, french canadian foot percussion and beginners bodhran.

Who knows I may see some of you in the future. I am also in the next year aiming to get a solo band together and release a CD, so keep your eyes peeled.

For more info check out my website:

Cheers, Sam

Good Luck Sam!!! I wish I could come hear you. Maybe one day soon I'll be over to visit the Sables and I'll be able to. Will you play Annap's Gathering? ;-)

Again. All the best and have fun.

Love, Annamill

From what I've heard you've been a pro for a while - but it's nice to hear you will be working in music as well!

Hi

At present I am based in Goole, near Hull but there is a possibility I will be setting up some classes for beginners and intermediate in the Sheffield area.

Cheers, Sam

All the best. I would like to know what french canadian foot percussion is, since I'd not heard of it before. Seems an usual skill for a UK person.

Best of luck in your pursuits.

Sam, that's great news, a talent like yours should never be diluted with "day jobs".
But what about the Mudcat scratch ceiligh band? We won't be able to afford you now!!!!
All the best,
Bron.

Hi

canadian Foot Percussion is a sort of rhythmical stepping that is done in French Canadian music and is excellent and adds great drive.

Cat - 'A Solo Band' well thats a band on its own of course!!

Hi Sam-when you get going, give me a contact address at the jug one night. I teach in a special school, sounds exactly like the sort of thing we might book. Cheers. Eric
