I lost my address bar! I had a crash yesterday and I now have most things back but the IE5 address bar is missing. Yes I have ticked the little box that tells me how to display it. Yes I have had my cursor all over the screen to see f it is autohiding somewhere. Yes I ahve tried resetting to the standard setting.

Any ideas?

Put the cursor just under the bar until you get the little up/down indicator. Try dragging the bottom of the tool bar down until the address bar shows........

check to see if it is vertically compressed - or if you have diveders that have "slid over".

sometimes you will find that the entire bar is compressed into a linewidth at the top of the screen. if your cursor changes when you point at the line that is probably true.

likewise the dividers on a bar can (sometimes) work as sliders - moving left and right...

this happens to me about once a week - but luckily it normally comes back when I reboot. Now if I can just keep the B-I-L from setting the printer to default to landscape...

Now if those don't work there is a neat little trick with IE that you can try. Go click on the start button. Then, go up to settings and click on Control Panel. Then double click on ADD/REMOVE programs. There should be a box that opens up that has a big white box on it that lists several programs...Scroll down in that box until you find MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER 5 (or whatever) AND INTERNET TOOLS. Double click on that. A new box should pop up that has three options for you to select. Select Repair Internet Explorer, then just follow the wizard...

Kewl, Amergin!

If all else fails, reboot, sometimes it seems magical, but it helps!

Of course - don't you have to wonder about a program that includes a self-repair feature? On their menu?

Thanks.

I waved the mouse slowly about (like CHarlie Drake, last verse of "My Boomerang Won't come Back") and I found nothing.

I re-booted. Nothing.

I went to the "add/remove" and discovered taht the crash had somehow eaten my IE5 and left me with IE4, so "repair" was not on. I found the IE5 setup exe, and re-installed IE5, and then had to re-boot, and nothing.

THen I ran "repair", and had to re-boot as it is part of the process, and Lo! an "address" tile slid out from under the "links" tile, and then re-size arrows let me enlarge the space for icons and I got everything on display.

THe Mudcat wins again!

Amergin - supporting 13,000 or so computers about equally divided between IE and Netscape.

Netscape ~ that's the broswer that doesn't have to be reinstalled frequently. The browser that doesn't corrupt registries during install and operation.

IE is called "job security" around here.

Hooray, MMario!, tell 'em!... I love Netscape..(up to 4.75, that is...Don't use anything that AOL has been messing with!)...Netscape 4.08 stand-alone(no mail & news) is known for being VERY stable...if you ever want to try a version of Netscape, go here and take your choice

(I have a version of Internet Exploder, but it gets used only in that rare case when someone has made a site that requires it)

for the record (and why i stayed away)
browsers are resource eating mega-kludge system killers
each and every one of them
the only choice is what form your massive aggravation attack will take
and AOL is the worst of the lot.
