The Light

Late one night, Nasreddine Hodja was down in the street wandering around under a streetlight, staring at the ground. One of his neighbours, who was returning home late after a party, stopped and asked him, "Nasreddine, what are you doing out here in the street so late?" "I've lost my house key," replied Nasreddine. "Don't worry", said his neighbour, "I'll help you look for it."

So his neighbour began to help look for Nasreddine's lost house key. They looked everywhere: under rocks, under dead leaves, in the dust, in the gutter and so on, but all in vain. The house key was no where to be found.

"Tell me, Nasreddine, are you sure you lost your key here?" "No, I lost it in the other street over there," said Nasreddine. "Then why is it that you're looking for them here??" asked the neighbour, somewhat exasperated. "Because", replied Nasreddine, "it's dark in the other street and here there's light."

cheers,

A long time ago
so long in fact that the stones that built the kingdom are dust
and the dust has been squeezed again into rock, there was a thief.
This thief was caught (as thieves often are) and was brought before the king.

The thief, knowing that his life was forfeit said to the king
"Oh mighty king, I am but dust to thee. But if you grant me a single year
I will teach your favorite horse to sing."
The king, amused by the thief's boldness, ordered it to be so.

And so, each day the thief was brought from the jail to the stable
where he diligently sang to the king's favorite horse, much to the amusment of the guards, the stable boys and anyone who happened along.
Finally, the guard captain, unable to contain himself any longer said to the thief
"Why do you this, oh thief? Do youo nont know that thy persistance is fruitless?"
And the thief smiled and answered
"I have a year, and in a year much may happen: The horse may die, the king may die, I may die...
or perhaps, just perhaps, the horse will learn to sing."

Oh all RIGHT, Big Guy, since you *asked* so nice (LOL), I will leave out blinks next time I use that.

It only blinks in Netscape. In IE, it scrolls across rather nicely.

Anyhow I copied it from a master HTML practitioner, so if there were any damages, sue him!

If using an excess of exclamation points has implications, what does using BLINKINGS say about us? Glad you don't usually succumb to the urge, WYSIWYG. Makes me cringe from the screen...

Begi heard that there was a man in the village selling gold pots very cheaply, so he went to investigate.
He found the merchant, surrounded by people clamoring for hsi gold pots.
Begi examined one of them when no one was paying attention to him, and found that the pots were made of brass with the thinnest gold plate.
So Begi urinated on the spot and put the pot down.
He then pushed his way through the crowd and asked for a pot.
The merchant asked him what he wanted the pot for and Begi answered that he was going to use it in the night so he would not have to leave his hut.
Of course, everyone thought Begi to be a great fool, wanting a golden pot for this purpose.
But Begi would not change his mind, and asked if he could test the pot he'd selected.
After finishing, he lifted the pot and found the wet spot.
Begi said to the merchant, "Even a golden pot is of no use if it leaks."
And the people of the vilage drove the merchant away.

Thanks to "intruder" for the two additions. . . you're certainly welcome to intrude (though I wouldn't call it that).

cheers,
