And it's to one of my favourite tunes, too. Everyone please take a look at Come Ye Back, My Love, and sing away. Great lyrics, Amergin! All the best, Áine |

Codwallop left of me, codwallop right!. Rich with illogic, and rife with disparity; Thinking so muddled it could lead to perdition, Blatant insanity, crazy but lawful; Demented morals and schemes to enforce them! Mad politicians, with schemes so self-serving! |

Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Áine Date: 25 Feb 01 - 01:32 PM Well, Ancient Amergin ;-) -- your beautiful, beautiful Silent Voices is now (proudly) installed in the Songbook. Thanks yet again for another excellent effort! And my dear darlin' Bard of the Fam, your wonderful and ear-ticklin' Protest Neurosis! is also now in the Tome. This should be required therapy for drivers afflicted with road rage ;-) Don't get mad, get a song! Hugs and snogs to you both, Áine |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Áine Date: 26 Feb 01 - 06:08 PM I just love it when we get new songs from new Mudcatters! Everybody say hello to The Crazy Bird -- and please go and enjoy two songs of his that I just put in the Songbook -- Hearts of Glory (in the Songs of Inspiration category) and Crazybird! (which explains where his Mudcat name comes from). Looks like we've got another very talented songwriter in the family -- So, when does the party start? *BG* -- Áine |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Sarah2 Date: 26 Feb 01 - 07:41 PM Well, Aine, I do additional verses now and again, meself. For example, I like to get the sots singing along on "Molly Malone" about this time of year, but it's so short that it's over by the time they get really going on it. So I added a couple of verses... These serve as verses 2 and 4:
She were dainty and lissome, and...
All the lads would come courtin' *** Ta, Sarah |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Áine Date: 27 Feb 01 - 10:44 AM Here's another one by The Crazy Bird, who apparently can 'take wing' in the car on his way to work and come up with great stuff like My Cookie Is Corrupt!. I know there's lots of 'Catters who can 'relate' to this song, so go learn it right now! Keep playing, singing and writing, Áine (And I'm not ignoring Sarah2 - I sent her a PM with a question about her verses)

Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: GUEST,Needs to rest cookie Reggie Miles Date: 17 Mar 01 - 01:14 PM Aine, here's a little escapist ditty I started a long time ago but only recently completed with a third verse. A short, sweet, three chord, Hawaiian styled song with a single fantasy nonsense Hawaiian type word in the title and chorus. Can you guess which? Well I don't speak Hawaiian. I just hope I didn't inadvertently spell something too offensive. ;o) Ahukahuba How 'Bout You? Close your eyes and drift away, to where the skies are blue and the palm trees sway. Where the island folk sing and dance all day. Ahukahuba how 'bout you? I want to go where the bananas grow. Where the accepted form of dress is wearing no clothes. I want the sun in my eyes and the sand in my toes. Ahukuhuba how 'bout you? There's a place that I am yearning for. Where a warm and gentle breeze blows by a tropical shore. Where I won't have to work and worry no more. Ahukahuba how 'bout you? More to come, Reggie Miles |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: mousethief Date: 19 Mar 01 - 07:09 PM From the Mir-falling-into-my-swimming-pool thread: The Ship from Old Russky (Mir) Alex |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 20 Mar 01 - 07:55 AM I put one on another thread at the weekend -(Here's a link to it, to put in in context) I'd like it if it went in the Mudcat Songbook.
I wrote it a couple of years ago, when my wife's mother died. Last week (March 6th 2001)my brother Brian suddenly died over in Ireland, and I found myself remembering it as I walked up to his place, and I sang it in the pub after we buried him on Sunday. It seemed to fit him well.
I just sang the first two verses - the last one didn't seem necessary. (Maybe it might work better as a first verse, with the other two to follow.)
I've put it up on my website tonight, with chords, but no notes, - "Over the edge of the world".
Now you've left us behind and you've gone on your way,
I'm watching and waiting and trying hard to see
Well, I stood at the cross at the far end of town,

Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Amergin Date: 23 Mar 01 - 12:59 PM Well, old Aine, I thought you were just tearing apart your house, hunting for your teeth..... |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Amergin Date: 30 May 01 - 04:49 AM This started as a joke between me and a friend...when I'm down she's doing great.....but when she's down I'm doing good.... I revel in your misery While you rejoice in mine When you cry I'm dancing When my tears fall you shine When your lips curl on down My head stands ever so high When my face coils into a scowl Your steps become airy and spry And they say we were meant for each other It is a love that never will die I sing as I grip your hand tightly inside of mine Of our love as we stand together, together beneath the sky I sit here and joke and laugh When I see that you are in pain You drink and point and smile When I take to the knife again I shout out halleluiah When I see you tying the knot You loudly praise the lord above When you see that I am distraught Chorus: |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Amergin Date: 05 Jun 01 - 01:35 AM I guess I forgot to do line breaks.....also see that i forgot a few other things also...title and whatnot....oh well...

Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: GUEST,Willa Date: 05 Jun 01 - 03:46 PM Hi, Aine This relates to the foot and mouth outbreak here in the UK Tune: Bonny at morn Title : The Culling fields No cows in the meadow, no lambs being born The flames light the skyline from dusk until dawn. (Repeat first two lines of each verse) Chorus: Sleepless at night, dreading the morn The flames light the skyline from dusk until dawn. The valley is silent, the farmyard is still And only the smoke pallmoves on the far hill. Marooned,in isolation, our hopes are all dashed The work of generations is all turned to ash New rules and regulations, when will they ever learn They hinder our efforts at every turn We're all laid idle, and where shall we turn The lad cannot work and the lass cannot earn line breaks fixed by mudelf |

Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Áine Date: 07 Jun 01 - 12:18 PM I'm still in the process of 'catching up' with all the outstanding entries into the Songbook, so if you've sent in a song and you haven't seen it appear in the Book, please send it to me again and I'll be sure to get it posted ASAP. Thanks to all you wonderful 'Cats for being patient with me these last couple of months -- and keep playing, singing and writing!! The latest (and late) additions to the Songbook are Mary's Knocking Shop and Rosie Again, both by KingBrilliant. KB writes a dang fine lyric, and she's left the tunes up to you. Great job, and I hope we see more from this 'Catter. Thanks, KB!! And a while back (sorry!) Kim C sent in a lovely Song of Inspiration entitled Down to the River. Very, very nice song. Thanks for sending this one, Kim. There ya go -- and as I said above, if I've 'lost' your song(s) that you've sent to me, please send again! All the best, Áine |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Micca Date: 07 Jun 01 - 01:08 PM Kris, Aine, I think this might fit nicely to the tune of "the Jolly beggerman" ( me ould rig a do)" |

Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Áine Date: 11 Jun 01 - 09:18 AM As I've said, I'm still catching up with things in the Songbook. I found this song, Times Changing, by Micca, this morning and I've just put it in the Book under the Parodies category. It's a good one, as usual from our Micca, so go learn it ;-) A big hug and snog to dear Micca for being so patient with the Keeper of the Book for taking so long to rediscover his masterpiece! Keep playing, singing and writing, Áine |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: JudeL Date: 11 Jun 01 - 10:29 AM Please excuse my ignorance but what if any is the difference between the mudcat songbook & the DT ? Jude |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: MMario Date: 11 Jun 01 - 10:53 AM Jude - the Mudcat songbook are all originals from mudcatters that have been posted on the forum or sent in to share the lyrics. They range from the sublime to the ridiculous - and all sorts in between. Some may eventually go into the DT - (some HAVE gone into the DT already) but it is a seperate collection from the DT - much more mudcat forum oriented. |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: JudeL Date: 11 Jun 01 - 11:42 AM Then here's my offering. I don't know if it's the sort of song that goes in the book but it's mine and writing it helped me at the time. HALF WRITTEN LETTER Chorus Just a half written letter, To a friend I once knew, Packed away with my dreams, Of what I meant to do
I was writing to tell her, |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Áine Date: 11 Jun 01 - 11:56 AM Dear JudeL -- Half Written Letter is exactly the kind of wonderful song that should be in the Mudcat Songbook! Thanks so much for sharing it with us -- and if there's any way for you to record it and send it in to Max for the Mudcat Radio show, I know we'd all love to hear it, too. Here's hoping to see many more songs from you, JudeL. Keep playing, singing and writing, Áine (And MMario - thanks for a perfect explanation of what the Songbook is - ya buggah!) |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: JudeL Date: 11 Jun 01 - 12:06 PM By the way - forgive my dislexic typing, 5th line of the 2nd verse the word is supposed to be "caused" not cased. But at least I remembered the line breaks. Jude |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Amergin Date: 11 Jun 01 - 12:36 PM wow, jude, that is a wonderfully powerful piece of work! hope i see more like it! |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Áine Date: 11 Jun 01 - 01:13 PM There ya go, JudeL -- 'cased' is now 'caused'. So, go and get this song down on tape/CD/sound file and get it in to Max immediately so we can hear it!! And after you do that, then get busy and write some more great songs, OK? -- Áine |
Subject: RE: Part IX - Additions to Mudcat Songbook From: Amos Date: 18 Jun 01 - 12:08 AM For those of you who recall Aine's distress and delight at acquiring her new home the following little house warming gift will be understandable.
