Subject: UK folk festivals, non-smoke singarounds From: Julie B Date: 02 Mar 01 - 09:02 AM Despite a request for info. in an earlier thread ( Non-Smoking Folk Clubs in the UK ), I've been unable to discover a single folk sing-around session in Northamptonshire or Bedfordshire with a non-smoking policy. Unfortunately it doesn't make sense to travel further afield on weekdays evenings, so I'd now like to find some folk festivals that might incorporate a sing-around in a non-smoking venue as part of their programme. St. Neots Folk Festival (in May) is one; does anybody know of any others in the UK?. I'd be really grateful for any information. Thanks, Julie |

Subject: RE: Help: UK folk festivals, non-smoke singaround From: Steveie1 Date: 06 Jun 01 - 08:17 AM Crail Folk Club in Fife is a non-smoking club. Crail Festival (Village festival) has events organised by Crail Folk Club, Major Concert being The John Wright Band, July 20th will be a non-smoking event. Whilst we do not agree with the gettoisation of smokers, we feel that the atmosphere is better on the whole for the watching public and the performers. |

Subject: RE: Help: UK folk festivals, non-smoke singaround From: JudeL Date: 29 Jun 01 - 08:18 AM Too late for this year - but worth remembering is at Chippenham Folk Festival, concerts and song sessions held at the Angel Hotel venue are non smoking. And I apologise if it upsets some people but it is not ghettoising smokers to ask that they excercise some consideration and curtesy by not imposing their choice to smoke on everyone, and asking them to excerise their choice to smoke in another room. If they smoke where others are singing they take away choice from everyone else around them. On a number of occasions, having paid for my ticket I have been forced to leave performances I was enjoying because of the selfishness of someone who clearly believes that they are the only one who's "rights" should be considered. Sorry for the rant but I'm fed up of being expected to feel sorry for smokers WHO HAVE A CHOICE !! |

Subject: RE: Help: UK folk festivals, non-smoke singaround From: John Routledge Date: 09 Oct 03 - 07:35 PM Thanks for reviving this thread. It is not really too much of an exaggeration to say that singing in a non smoking atmosphere always sounds better. It is certainly easier to do :0) |
