Bless Yourselves 'Catters, for I have sinned.

(1)I once bought a round of drink for a bagpipe band. (2)I once bought a Bee Gee's LP. (3) I once told Patrick Kavanagh - the wondrous poet who wrote the qunintessential love song "The Dawning Of The Day" - that in my considered opinion he was a grumpy old bastard who knew f..k all and that he should take himself back to the obscurity of Co. Monaghan where he belonged.

Oh dear, oh, dear, oh dear....

Any advance on that? M

Admitting you have made mistakes in your life is the first step.

Admitting you will make mistakes again in your life is the second step.

Admitting your mistakes to others who would otherwise not have known or cared is another mistake.

Ickle, I did the same at a Neil Diamond concert. Worse than that, in another thread I recently made diparaging remarks about Pete Seeger's lyric writing abilities.

Oh, where shall I turn for forgiveness if not unto you?

Well....ok... I once stood in front of my living room window on crutches and waved at my neighbours while they were shovelling their driveway, even though I could actually get around the house ( and maybe even shovel snow ) sloooowly, without too much pain if I didn't use the crutches, in hopes that they would shovel my.... wait, I hear scraping.... excellent, it worked !

I once substituted a Bb9 chord in place of a straight F chord in a trad tune, and was promptly reprimanded by the listener.

For a long time I refused to mute the bass strings on my guitar (for that Doc sound) feeling that for what I spent on my rosewood guitar, the guitar should be allowed to sustain and ring out. I was told by a famous and notable player that my attitude was the most assinine thing he'd ever heard of. I decided that HIS attitude was more assinine than mine (but I did learn the technique.)

It is, IMO, perfectly all right to like Rise Up Singing, provided only that you don't do any of the following:

1) Put any credence in the chord sequences they supply.

2) Modify lyrics for greater political correctness in accordance with their modifications.

3) Attend a song circle with your face in it, and bitch and moan if anyone starts a song that isn't in it.

Unfortunately, all of the above errors are widespread.

Peter.

I was the one who put Max up to singing "Bird In A Gilded Cage". But was sufficiently punished when he inflicted the Martin and Lewis version et al on me and ALL of Mudcatville.

I didn't know who Patrick Sky was until Kendall and Spaw introduced me to him.

I still don't know who Patrick Kavanagh is, but if chordstrangler says he is a grumpy ol' bastard who knows "f**k all, it must be true. Were you sober when you said that, CS?

SINSULL, I have to confess that I wasn't. Not only was I not sober but I was totally confused and young and foolish and a cub reporter on a job I wasn't up to.....need I say more.

But if you don't know who Patrick Kavanagh is and was, then, please listen to me when I say that he is worth looking up.

A contrary old bastard he was, but he wrote a love song to thrash all love songs. The Dawning of the Day is so special that it would almost make you believe in God. It is that good - in my humble opinion. M

Hi, I once drove Jerry Jeff Walker out of a music store in Austin by playing too loud (acoustically).

You are right, Chordstrangler, Raglan Road is the quintessential love song. The tune to it, "Dawning of the Day" is an old pipe march, also used for the Irish music hall song, "William Bloat", talk about ridiculous to sublime!

I married a cop. My Dad threw Reba McIntyre and Roger Miller off their own stages. I listen to Vivaldi. My husband plays the bodhran. I encourage him. My daughter listens to Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails. I eat meat, smoke and drink. My piano has several "layers" of messages written in the dust. My girl dog likes to eat carpet so I have several holes in it. I'm a Research Addict who likes proving I can find it, so I spend way to much time on Mudcat.

Mea Culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa. I forgot to mention that I didn't go to Woodstock 1, and I didn't even want to go.......

The fans of Sydney Devine are just normal people, however it's whipered in social circles.

Some people think that Sydney Devine fans should be locked up and then thrown away the key.

Hi Callie. My post was (sort of) a joke. Someone mentioned a Bb9th chord, which is kinda jazzy. The song I was referring to (Nitelife) has a pattern that goes C, C9, F, Bb9..... I drop the high F (the fifth in a Bb) to an E (open string). To some that's more than "jazzy" it's downright disonent!

Sorcha. I want to marry you and have your children! You have so many wonderful bad habits.

OK, I've been holding off on this, but I figure the Mudcat is the best place to get this off my chest.

What I'm about to confess, I have never told anyone before in my life.
In 1968, I sob...sob... sob, actually voted for Richard Milhous Nixon.

There, I've said it, but I don't feel any better about it.

I feel there were mitigating factors. I was in Viet Nam, Booby had just been shot, and I was pretty disallussioned with everything.I was filling out my absentee ballot, and there was nobody left to vote for, but I was going to vote ,by God.

When I got back, I got Orson Welles record "The Begatting of the President" (I still have it) and smoked a lot of dope while I listened to it.

Please forgive me.
