Portland OR open mike ends

This is just a note for those in the area who might frequent the open mike at Artichoke Music in Portland, OR. Artichoke, having donated the space for a year and a half, has decided they can't do that anymore, so in 3 weeks the open mike on Thursday nights will cease.

There is some speculation that another open mike will take its place at Red and Black Cafe (on SE Division), but that is not confirmed. I will let folks know if that does happen, or if another place has been chosen instead.

Amergin, are you still thinking of going to the open mike this Thursday (3/22)? I'll try to go, I'm working in the morning-early afternoon but should be able to wend my way there by 7pm.

My god, that was fun....I met BLT and Mollificent there tonight.....they are both very wonderfully talented people....BLT, though was the smart one....she left before I got called (I was one of the last ones to go up on stage....)It was the first time I had ever gone to an open mike like that.....quite a bit of a different feel from poetry sessions.....I found it to be more enjoyable....

Well, I feel terrible for leaving before hearing Amergin. My only excuse is that I had to get up at 5am in order to go to work, and I somehow didn't know that Amergin was going up on stage. The meeting of live Mudcattoiseaux is quite an amazing experience, like seeing characters in a beloved story come to life. I'm still somewhat in shock. Thanks to both Amergin and Mollificent (who completely blew the crowd away with her singing, acapella, of British, Irish and Scottish songs). One small interaction of note: as I signed a performer's mailing list, she said, very earnestly, I've been to that Mudcat Cafe before. Ah well, maybe she has, but I'm not sure she understood the whereness part exactly, even though I clearly announced from the stage that it was "sort of a website."

The open mike at the Artichoke will continue thru April 12 then close for good. No plans for another space have been made to date.

Well, like I said in the PM I just sent you, blt, I would not have wanted to stick around that late if I had to get up so early in the morning either....

You would have gotten a good laugh though, by witnessing me forget the words to the first one I did as I was singing it.....though I did eventually remember them....as soon as I sat back down....

Yes, Mollificent, just blew us all away....my poor tired jaw hasn't been able to shut since....and you got everyone singing along...
