Subject: Online resources for tune notation?
From: BeauDangles

Hello 'Catters,

A friend of mine asked me to compose a tune for an English Country Dance that he composed. I have done so, and am we are both pleased with the results (dance AND tune).

My problem is this. We are going to make a gift of the dance and the tune to a certain person. We are going to have the dance and the tune calligraphed by another friend. But this friend doesn't know from music notation. Nor does my friend who wrote the dance. I can do it freehand, but I am by nature lazy. And time is short. I was wondering if any of you knows of a website where I can enter the names and values of the notes in my tune, and have it automatically converted into notation. This I would then give to my other friend so she can put it into calligraphy for me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

BeauD

Beau - about the best I can think of is if you can write it in abc notation then there is a site that will take your abc and giv you a gif - or there are several converters of abc to standard programs out there.

there's an abc primer linked in the FAQ

Try the Tune O Tron at www.concertina.net where you can test your abc as you write it to see if you've got it right.

Hey Wes,

That Tune o tron sounds like just what I need. I am attempting to do the ABC for my tune right now, but it would be great to see it as I do it so I can make adjustments. I tried your link, but it doesn't work. Would you post it again?

Nevermind, Wes.

I flaked there for a minute. The address works fine. Just the blue clikey thing was not working. I'm off to try it now!

Beau,

There is a great program you can download for FREE! It's Coda Music's Note Pad program. This is a subset of their very high end program Finale. It doesn't have all the fancy real time MIDI recording parts but it will make a very nice looking sheet of music with all the expression notations and everything. Note entry throught the computer keyboard is very easy.

Beau-let us know how this works out. Mark, what is the Note Pad like to work with? I defected from Coda to Overture, because it was much easier to work with, but am curious about this new thing--
