Subject: Reincarnation : I'd like to come back as
From: gnu
Date: 27 Mar 01 - 08:56 PM

Was going to save this topic for the weekend for a bit of fun, but I can't wait. Going to Oggie Land soon, but this may make waking up tomorrow a bit more fun. Impetus to rise again, you know ?

Reincarnation... but as what ?

Well, I can think of a lot of things I'd like to come back as in the next life, but I fear that I, with the luck I have had lately, am doomed to come back as an alcoholic woodpecker. Now, there's a tomorrow mourning !

Sooooo, what do you 'Cats want... or fear... to come back as in the next life. Or what past life wrought this one ?

gnu

Someone I know once had a long and interesting conversation with a whale who was taking a lifetime off after having ben a successful but hard-drinking artist. Whales have a sort of interesting life, not too much stress, plenty of space to roam in, adequate food, and not much to worry about except noise pollution. On the other hand being a hawk has always appealed. But in general I think people come around again as people as long as they're still able to, and not too able to.

Have to think about this......cat is attractive, but not a feral one. Whale is attractive, but not a hunted one in a polluted ocean. Eagle is attractive but not with DDT thinning my eggshells. Human is attractive, but not when they kill babies over religion. Tree would do, but not in a threatened rain forest, or an Elm with Dutch Elm Disease.

Aha! A weed maybe? A plant that is not desired where it is at, but is too tough to succumb to humanity's depradations........got it....a DANDELION!!

but, gnu, they do! (oops, didn't' mean to rhyme there) Dandelions come back from poisoned roots, dug up/cut off roots, wind blown seeds......I have never been able to get rid of them, no matter what I do. But Raven or the Little Brother Crow seems like a good second choice. I have "talked" to/with them for years......they are good friends. They do get shot at, tho......

Dolphin, definitely. Dolphins spend their entire lives eating, sleeping, playing, and having sex. How great is that? The tuna thing would suck, but at least we're cutting down. I think it's worth the risk.

Otherwise, a cat or a flying thing. I've got an affinity for crows, but seagulls are better flyers.

Well, I don't really believe in reincarnation, but can I still play? If I did believe in it, and could choose what to come back as, I'd be a sequoia. Hopefully somewhere in a national park where logging isn't allowed. Tall and quiet and old. Peace from my roots to my topmost branches.

"Or what past life wrought this one?" Whoa, gnu. Great question- and one I don't think I'm ready to face. What are your thoughts on it for yourself?

I agree with Lyrical Lady- if I come back as an animal (Sorry, Amergin- I believe we do choose, or rather, that the answer is obvious to us at that time) I would choose to be a raven. I like eagles but they are far too arrogant and royal to suit me. Ravens, on the other hand, say, Isn't this fun??!! Or at least, interesting, and that may be enough. (There is a curse that goes something like: May you always live in interesting times.) So maybe it isn't enough- but I'll try it. After all, we're talking 30 years, tops. *G*

Not that I think I'll come back, but I'd like to come back as me. I like being me, and I'd like to not have it end in the first place, but I suppose I can't find immortality that easily. Yeah, I'd like to come back as me. Or to swap places with my Other Half so he gets to be me and I get to be him. That would be weird, but very interesting.

But then, that might mean Mairead herself would have to come back as me. Poor thing. Guess I'll back away from my wish--I wouldn't want to inflict _that_ on anyone, would I?

Ebbie... I can't remember what I had for breakfast half the time, so going back over 45 years is a bit of a strain. But this is a "wish" thread, soooo, I figure I was a beaver, the "First Engineer". It completes the cycle of damming up old woods roads as a beaver and now trying to get across or around the dam things as a human.

Subject: Lyr Add: THE HIGHWAYMAN (Jimmy Webb)
From: GUEST,Matt_R
Date: 28 Mar 01 - 08:48 AM

Here's a great song about past lives...it came out when I was 6 years old...simply one of the greatest songs ever.

The Highwaymen

I was a highwayman
Along the coach roads I did ride
With sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of '25
But I'm still alive...

I was a sailor
I was born upon the tide
With the sea I did abide
I sailed a schooner round the horn of Mexico
I went aloft and furled the main sail in a blow
And when the yard broke off they say that I got killed
But I'm living still...

I was a dam builder
Across a river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
At a place called Boulder, on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that grey tomb that knows no sound
But I'm still around...

I'll always be around, and around
And around, and around, and around

I fly a starship
Across the universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
But I will remain...

And I'll be back again, and again
And again, and again, and again...

I suppose I will continue my evolution on learning to be a healer and I would like to use my words and musical ability even more so for such. If I had complete freedom to choose without thinking of the karmic ramifications or mis-direction it may cost, I would like to be a large wild cat with guarantees of living well and free.

As it is, there is always work to do and I suspect when it comes time to make the choice I will ask the gawd of my heart what is for my highest good and choose that, warts and all. I would hope this would include getting together with some *ships in the night* from this lifetime, people I'd really like to know better and/or be with more.

BUT, the idea of taking one lifetime span off to go swim as a dolphin, or fly like a red-tailed hawk, or run like a wolf has definite attractions!

katlaughing is fine for now, though

Hmmm, this is a tough one, I'd say my power animal but I haven't really found it yet......I guess a panther though, cos they're fast and intellegent(unlike me!!), and sleek....and best of all they're black!! They roam gracefully around the world.....but it'd have to be a time when no one was hunting precious animals....A panther I think definately as it is part of my magickal name (Rowan Firepanther).

I would consider a tree though, but I don't know which one. I'd have to think about that one. I like the idea of a golden eagle as they are nearly extinct........

HEY THERE'S AN IDEA.............A DODO....WOW!!

I'm guna go now so sum1 else can write!!

I was almost attacked by a golden eagle once. My buddy Will and I were hiking along a very narrow, high ridge up in the Cascades by the American River. As we got near the end we heard this very loud noise that sounded electronic, like the beep of a video game (this was about 1983), but much longer and louder. We couldn't tell where it was coming from at first, but eventually we saw a huge, beautiful bird diving at us, and screaming.

We had decided not to go all the way to the end of the ridge after all, and doubled back double-quick, and dropped down a 25' cliff face on a rope to get out of the eagle's territory.

Great memory. Beautiful bird. Excellent cardiac exercise too, to realize you're being warned off by a huge bird with really big talons, not to mention beak.

Alex

If as an animal - a polar bear. They embrace the cold and stand against all predatory foes, even man.

To elaborate on my post. I want to be an eagle in spite of the "regal, arrogance' It's the soaring on the thermals part I dig. As a human, I suspect i will be what i have always been a poet-warrior. It would be nice to lose the warrior part but as long as we exist and are greedy, the warrior part will be needed. Kindest reguards, Neil

Mattobo, where the hell is the "horn of Mexico!"? I think that guy should have his poetic license suspended!!

As for past lives forming later ones, I think it isn't always a dramatic inheritance of your failures or some such, like being a beaver and then having to deal with the beaver's dams. Sometimes its just moving ahead on whatever long-term purposes you may have set. It is very clear to me that I was taken out of action by a large chunk of a (I think) boiler that become suddenly airborne during a naval battle or torpedoing incident and wiped out the whole half of the bridge I stood on. That of course is my best effort o put some kind of interpretation on images and memories a lot less vivid than ones from the current identitiy. Dunno why that is! We're such wusses about it!! "ooo --- I don't reMEMberrrr!".

As for male whales, Mister Guest, the seven-foot tongue is only half the story!

If you re-incarnate while still incarnate, you would by defintion be running two bodies. This would be a very enlightening process -- just imagine if you had to multitask, say, being a two-year old AND being a thirty-six year old without getting the duties mixed up. There's be bound to be some spillover, and we can only hope you'd end up being a wunderkindof a 2-year-old instead of a prematurely senile adult. There would be other challenges as well. For example, if you didn't compartment your own wissdom between the two identities you would have to go through grade school and put up with that kind of insanity while fully aware that it was absolute BS!! And suppose they were opposite genders!!! Your inner girl and outer boy would have no end of fisticuffs!!

I understand. At least some. I've seen a lot of crap humans have done. On balance, I have to add I have also seen a lot of good humans have done. Maybe the job of conscious lemmings is to try to turn the tide....:>). ANyway, don't be hard on yourself for being human. First of all, it won't open the door to handling anything in particular. And second of all, you didn't get to fill in an application, anyway!

I don't beieve in physical reincarnation, but I do believe in psychic reincarnation. I should. I've been through enough of them.

If I could come back as anyone/anything it would be me with all my hard-earned consciousness intact in a family and community who loved and supported me from the start, and with much more time and money to devote to learning and playing my instrument(s)and sharing with others.
