I was talking to a computerless Mudjack (he's fine, but living in their motorhome while they move) this weekend at the Portland (OR) music outing and I believe he said something had happened to Dave. Anyone know?
Blessings,
Barbara

Barbara, I can't speak for Dave, but hopefully he'll post here and say hi. He's around the forum, but just can't get PalTalk to work on his 'puter. I miss his singing and wish he could get to another 'puter occasionally so we could hear him.

*********HI DAVE***********

Barbara, I just reread your post. Did something happen in the last two days? If anyone knows, fill us in.

Hello, all you wonderful people, you salt of the earth, you repositories of good will, good cheer, and good taste! I am verily here, alive, and in good (as it ever was)voice and good health (with the exception of having a bad case of withdrawal symptoms from my involuntary withdrawal from MudCat audio-chatism.)

I'm making some computer changes soon, which just might get around Paltalk's mysterious barrier.

I'm suffering, however, from a bad conscience. I have owed tapes of my MudCat concert to several people (you know who you are) for lo, these many moons. I expect to send them this week, and I am returning the cash several people sent me for the tapes, along with my apologies, for whatever they are worth.

So, does this mean there will be a PalTalk concert? I can hear Bigchuck rubbing his hands and smiling!

Indeed. We can but hope.

I'm enough of a ham that, if I make it to Paltalk, I'll be glad to do one.

Keep the cash Dave. Use it to update your computer and treat us to another concert. I mentioned missing you on another thread and then you started posting again. Good to have you back.

I just talked to Mudjack, and here's what confused him. He saw this posted in the Three Rivers Folk Club News ( The people who bring you Tumbleweed):
Remembering Dave Dave Oestreich, a major presence in the Three Rivers Folklife Society, passed away February 1, 2001. A charter member of 3RFS, Dave was an accomplished old-time fiddler and blues harmonica player. Over the years, he performed with a number of local music groups and was a frequent host of 3RFS song circles. He was also active in the Old-Time Fiddlers Association. Dave was always interested in learning about new technology and became an avid user of the Internet, where he scoured the Web for music clips and interesting information. He also learned to make digital sound clips and contributed a few for the 3RFS Web site.

Dave always had a joke to offer, perhaps not a good one, but one presented with such genuine feeling that it was appreciated. Many of us were frequent recipients of the jokes he sent out by e-mail.

At Dave's request, there will be no formal services. He suggested a gathering of friends in a festive atmosphere sometime in the future. He would expect some levity from all of us.

Liz Campbell summed up our feelings wonderfully: Dave wouldn't appreciate that I'm crying, and I don't have any beer.

It's a small world, isn't it? Even with the difference in the spelling of our names (OestERreich). But to quote Mark Twain, "The reports of my death have been grossly exaggerated."

Glad to hear it, Dave. I did note the spelling difference too, but I had both of them in front of me. Mudjack just assumed the person he met a few times at Richland WA gatherings was you; didn't ever get around to asking about Mudcat. You know how that goes? Too busy making music to talk? Anyway, this ought to add some savor to breathing the air on a workday.
Blessings,
Barbara

Mudcat Dave O., I once asked you if you were the Dave O. I knew.

The Three Rivers Dave was a major person at music events, he did play a mean harmonica, and he WILL be sorely missed. He also scanned this forum on occasion.

He was a short stretch away from retirement -- actually, had retired, but kept getting lured back into projects -- he was so looking forward to calling his time his own, and he got cheated out of a real retirement. I wasn't going to bring up his death, but since it came up, I am lifting this virtual glass to a friend who will, again, be sorely missed
