Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: reggie miles Date: 31 Mar 01 - 03:14 AM Look, up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane. No, it's Mother Earth News Woman! Under the guise of Wyo Woman, mild mannered Mudcateer, she fights the never ending battle for truth, justice and the Earthy/American way. Jimmy: "Golly Mother Earth News Woman, what'll be your first big adventure? Is it true you have a secret super identity and can actually bend steel in your bare hands and leap over tall buildings in a single bound? I'll bet you have xray vision too and super hearing. They say your only weakness is the mysterious substance from your home planet called Kraptonite and that you're the last surviving member of your world because it blew up right after your parents sent you to Earth in your own space ship!" M.E.N. Woman: Jeez Jimmy put a sock in it, you gotta lay off the jo and speakin' of caffeine, be a good kid and go fetch me a double tall latte with extra foam. No, wait a minute, make that a triple mocha with all the trimmings and take it out of petty cash." Jimmy: "You got it. Right away boss!" As Jimmy leaves her office, M.E.N. Woman ponders what adventures await her. Tune in next time boys and girls for another thrilling episode of Mother Earth News Woman! |

Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: BlueJay Date: 31 Mar 01 - 06:21 AM Absolutely the best news I've heard in a long time. dwditty's right. Sometimes good things DO happen to good people, and I can think of no one I'd rather have as Managing Editor of TMEN. K.C.- I am so glad you'll be near your Mom, which is probably what motivated this sojourn in the first place. Those of us in Colorado will miss you of course, but our loss is Kansas' gain, like the water flowing down the Arkansas River, by which you once lived. (How's that for a screwed up sentence)? If you get tired of corn, come back and visit where you can see some sagebrush and scrub oak. Go to it, K.C. I may have to resubscribe. My best wishes, BlueJay |

Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: Jon Freeman Date: 31 Mar 01 - 11:04 AM Congratualtions WyoWoman, I hope it goes well for you. I do however want to pick you up on: "I do think the Mudcatteers have so very much consistent with Mother Earth". As it happens, from what I have found on the internet, I think I would agree with much of the content of Mother Earth but I view Mudcat as a group of individuals with often very differing views and opinions and I am not keen on the idea of being a "Madcatteer", presumably with some pre-defined ideas. Jon (A miserable git and an individual) |

Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: catspaw49 Date: 31 Mar 01 - 12:15 PM Paw and Cletus have been avid readers of "Mother Earth" out of necessity. It was stupid I know, but when they were pestering me for "sumpin' ta reed" I gave them my bundled collection of old copies. I had no idea at the time they would use them to decorate their outhouse. I must admit it is more entertaining than staring at a wasp's nest in the corner, although you are wise to keep an eye on that too. Unfortunately, the two of them have picked up on several ideas and projects that "Mother Earth" detailed and happen to be on the wall across from hole #2. I suppose they could foul up even the best of ideas and directions, but their confusion over compost and sewage and the resultant feud when Ol' Man Rafferty discovered the additions to his compost heap..................just too gruesome, not to mention disgusting, for words. On the other hand, Rafferty's rhubarb did take first place at the Fairfield County Fair. I hope they find something new to decorate with this time since the new jonny is currently under construction. Two walls were blown out of the old one from an explosion, listed by the local VFD as of "unknown origin," although it happened shortly after one of their "All-Nighters" of roast pork, pinto beans, and Iron City. I am concerned that the stack of papers they have sitting on the stoop is intended for wallpaper. Neither of them is up to a daily dose of the "National Enquirer." Spaw |
Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: KT Date: 31 Mar 01 - 12:50 PM Heartiest congratulations, WW!!! I'm headed out today to pick up a copy so I can subscribe!! Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: kytrad (Jean Ritchie) Date: 31 Mar 01 - 01:44 PM Dear WyoWoman, Here's wishing you good times, fulfillment, enjoyment, in your new job. It's a fine magazine- I think I have the first issue somewhere! Once I subscribed for a lifetime membership, but then I seem to remember they went out of business (or almost?) and I never got it again. Glad to hear Mother Earth is still going strong, and we know you'll make her even better. Jean Ritchie |

Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: Bert Date: 31 Mar 01 - 01:58 PM Wow! that's bloody great. Well done Wyomeluv! I'll have to subscribe again. I gave it up some years ago because of their one sided view of the nuclear industry. Now that you are driving I know we can expect reasoned discussion and rational arguments on all issues. Luvya, Bert. |
Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: katlaughing Date: 31 Mar 01 - 02:47 PM Big Mick, I kept bugging her about when she was gonna tell all the Mudcatters. Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: wdyat12 Date: 31 Mar 01 - 03:48 PM Bubble wrap got sucked up into the cooling intake of my envirnomentally unfriendly outboard and killed it, so, from where I sit dead in the water, it is. wdyat12 |
Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: WyoWoman Date: 31 Mar 01 - 10:30 PM Finally got time to sit down and tune back in to Mudcatland. Thank you all with all my heart for your good wishes and congratulations. (And no, Jon, you don't have to be anything you don't want to be. I should have said "some" Mudcatteers. Sorry.) We'll have to investigate the environmental okey-dokey-ness of bubblewrap, if it's only used for clothing. I mean, I'm thinkin' that would actually be a good thing, getting it out of landfills and outboard motors and into the workaday wardrobes of men and women of all shapes and sizes ... ummmm ... unnnnh ... nivver mindJust for the sake of clarity and humility, I want to let y'all know that I'm not the big cheese at Mother. We have a publisher and a new editor-in-chief and I'm the next one down the rung. But it is a major coup and I am still completely in the clouds about it. I start in two weeks, so much of my thinking for the next little while is going to be about getting myself relocated and finding the perfect little Kansas farmhouse within a comfortable, yet challenging, bike ride of the office. Hmm. wonder if I'll be able to pull THAT off ... Then, we'll get to work on the content. The core of the magazine will remain much the same, but we will be working on making it more contemporary and bringing new readers into the fold. I certainly intend to still have time for music. I just got a new keyboard with which I can allegedly record MIDI files and about which I am utterly clueless. I had thought to spend some time getting acquainted with it and learning as much as I can about song-writing, but other matters seem to be shaping up to take precedence. We shall see. I just have this image of me sitting on my farmhouse porch in my jeans with my feet propped up on the porch rail and my guitar on my lap, plunking meaningfully on my usual three chords as the Kansas sun goes down and the sound of little possums hammering and swearing little possum cusswords drifts up from the composting outhouse ... Y'all come set a spell if'n' you can ... And, as I told Amos, I think the name's going to remain WyoWoman. Once I get one of these my multiple personalities set, I pretty much want to stick with it. WW, Managing Mother |

Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: WyoWoman Date: 02 Apr 01 - 05:45 PM Hey back atcha. Yes, I think gardening will be substantially easier in Kansas than in Wyoming. It's the presence of fleas, ticks and chiggers that has me a little twitchy, so to speak. I vowed never again to live in humidity, after 17 years in the desert. Now my face is going to break out for six weeks, readjusting. And my dog and cat will have to wear flea collars again. Sigh. I suppose some sacrifices must be made. *Lin: where in Kansas are you? *Art: I know. The task is daunting. Yet, should it be? I mean, how much handwriting on how many walls will it take? * Wydat12: Let me take that under advisement and get back to you ... All I can think of is "Get you a copper kettle, get you a copper coil ... " Oh yeay, oh yeay!!!!! ww |

Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: katlaughing Date: 02 Apr 01 - 11:28 PM WyoWoman, they now have once per month, one drop on the back of the neck flea repellent which my frineds back east have said works really well. It also helps to feed them garlic and brewer's yeast, mixed in with their food. I used to get a specific product at the health food store, mighta been called PetGuard, can't remember. That's been the main reason I haven't wanted to go back to New England, at least the southern part...humidity, fleas, and Lyme's disease ticks!**BG** Hey, maybe that'll have to be one of the first articles you hire out, eh? You are gonna do SO good!! luvyakat |
Subject: RE: CONGRATS WYO WOMAN-Mng Editor!!!! From: Bill D Date: 02 Apr 01 - 11:54 PM !! neato! many congratulations...and Kansas can be just fine!...I lived in Wichita for many years...and in Lawrence for 3 years...but I'm afraid that a little farmhouse within bicycle distance of KC will be a neat trick! Good luck! |
