Subject: Chords for Nashville From: murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 31 Mar 01 - 11:36 PM I posted the lyrics to the Uncle Dave Macon song "Nashville" in the thread Uncle Dave Macon songs. That thread is large and I thought I would start a new one rather than renvew that one. What I want are the chords for the song. Thanks, Murray |
Subject: RE: Req: Chords for Nashville (Uncle Dave Macon) From: wysiwyg Date: 01 Apr 01 - 02:32 PM Murray, I'll take a crack at them tomorrow if no one else does. Do you have a key preference? ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Req: Chords for Nashville (Uncle Dave Macon) From: GUEST,murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 02 Apr 01 - 08:36 AM My voice likes the key of D for some reason. But I can transpose when necessary. BTW I plan to play it on guitar rather than banjo simply because I can't play banjo. Many thanks ~S~ Murray |
Subject: RE: Req: Chords for Nashville (Uncle Dave Macon) From: wysiwyg Date: 02 Apr 01 - 09:57 AM Murray, I had another idea. The version I have is guitar, and is by Jim Craig of Chicago who now owns Hogeye Music in Evanston. He and his wife Vivian had played the clubs there extensively "back then" and Art Thieme was kind enough to send me a tape recently of one of their sets. Jim is such a good guitarist, and was such an Uncle Dave aficionado-- I am sure his arrangement is going to be too complicated for me to catch all of it. And I bet even though this was many years ago, he will remember how he played it. It may have been his version of how Macon played it, for all I know... I never heard the original. I don't have an e-mail address for them and last I looked Hogeye had no website. But I am going to try to get his arrangement. Unless you just GOTTA play this NOW. If I can get it from him I will also send you a copy of his taped version. OK? ~Susan |
Subject: RE: Req: Chords for Nashville (Uncle Dave Macon) From: Art Thieme Date: 02 Apr 01 - 09:43 PM Do you mean "In And Around Nashville" ? -- Mike Seeger does it and I did it in the "C" banjo tuning. Not the open-C tuning. It's the one favored by Pete Seeger with the fourth banjo string dropped a note. It's on my 1998 CD for Waterbug Records. For the most part, it's just a 3 chord song. C, F and G7 Art Thieme |
Subject: RE: Req: Chords for Nashville (Uncle Dave Macon) From: GUEST,murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 03 Apr 01 - 08:39 AM Art. I am not at home and I don't have my CDs to refer to for the exact title. It is a song you have done and it starts with "Oh the roosters, they lay eggs in Nashville." Susan, It is a project of mine to learn it. I would love to get the version and equally like to hear the tape. Many thanks.

Subject: RE: Req: Chords for Nashville (Uncle Dave Macon) From: wysiwyg Date: 03 Apr 01 - 09:40 AM Yes, Murray, that is the same one. I spent some time yesterday trying to hook up with Jim Craig via e-mail and had no luck, although I did *meet* a very crabby man who I thought might be in touch with him and apparently is not. Someone will have to call him up I guess! (I'se scared!) If you will send me your snail address I will send you the tape. (Our tape copier is no good so I will have to ask you to send it back. OK?) Then if you can't figure out from hearing it what Jim is doing, we'll call him. ~Susan motormice@hotmail.com |
