Subject: HELP needed from Britt, London area.
From: CRANKY YANKEE
Date: 05 Apr 01 - 08:01 PM

I need the Phone number of Parlophone, A&R division. They are in the EMI Bldg. I need an adress too. I asked our International Directory Assistance but instead of connecting me with the London Operator, they looked in their computer which had no listing for Parlophone. It Seems to me, that the AT&T Data Base needs expanding.
Thanks, Jody Gibson.

IvanB
I can't thank you enough. I'M sending you a CD "Spanning the Decades" Half of the tracks are my 1959 Parlophone recordings, the rest were done in my studio and all instruments and all voices are me. This includes Guitar, 5 string banjo, ateel guitar, fiddle and bass foodle ( Not a misprint, is explained in the insert notes.)
4 of the new tracks need some translation for other than Yankees. Oh, By the Way, Yankees only live in the 5 New England states, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire Vermont and Connecticut. It's ok if Britts call all Americans Yankees, it's kind of flattering, but, Americans should know better and sometimes they need correcxting. Back to the Subject at hand. The Following should help translate some of the quaint Yankeeisms into real English.

"Not for nothin'" (In Providence Waltz) A Phrase peculiar to the Providence, Rhode Island area. It means, "Take this for what it's worth, or, In my opinion............"
"The Bug up on Route 95 "(Providence Waltz) A Huge "Grasshopper looking" blue sculpture situated to the left of Interstate Highway 95 (Equivelent to "Motorway") as you approach Providence from the South. It advertises, "New England Pest Control".

(Providence waltz, again.) "Hi Neighbor, have a 'Gansett" The motto of the now defunct Narragansett Brewing Co."

Galilee is a commercial fishing port, part of Point Judith Rhode Island. (Frederick's of Galilee) Explenation: Fredericks of Hollywood is a very well known store that sells Ladies unmentionables. (so why am I mentioning them?) Helly- Hansen makes very expensive (but very good) foul weather gear.

"Foxwood" (Foxwood Polka) is a gambling casino located on the Pequod Indian Reservation in N.E. Connecticut.

"Keep on Fishin'" really happened.

You probably already know about Lady Astor's big mouth. but just in case youre not familiar with the circumstances under which "The D-Day Dodgers" was written, here 'tis. One of the most ill conceived and stupidest things ever uttered by a public figure was, Lady Astor's , immediately after the Normandy Invasion. "The British Troops in Italy are the "Artful Dodgers of D-Day"
WELL, Lt. Hamish Henderson of the 51st Highland Brigade,at the time up to their collective ears in Germans, took exception to this bit of nonsense and composed the "D-Day Dodgers" (to the tune of Lilly Marlene) as a rebuttal.
I made the Parlophone recordings when I was stationed at RAF Lakenheath. I was a T/Sgt Air Traffic Controller.
The Line, "Drink nothing stronger than a coke" in "so you Think You've got Troubles " got right by everyone, including George Martin. So, the BBC couldn't play it. We didn't sell too many of that one. You know? it's hard to see or hear when you've got your head up your ass.

Thanks again.
Jody Gibson
Newport, Rhode Island.

Cranky, the number above is WRONG, contact is thru the EMI switch board at +44 (0)020 7605 5000 and ask for Parlophone A&R they will not put you through without a "contact name" so customer services might be your first stop. If I can help further, please let me know.

IvanB You know? it's hard to think when one has his head up his ass. That's why I neglected to ask for your mail adress. If you don't want your Mail Adress
on the internet, send it to Rose Island Recording Co.
36 Charles St. Apt 4.
Newport Rhode Island USA 02840.
Phone 401-847-1221
We have the ringer turned off the phone most of the time, for obvious reasons, You'll get an answewring machine, just start talking or singing or something and Donna or I will answer the phone. .
Micca, this goes for you too. See Thread #4 If one of you can get the A&r Guy's name, I'll be eternally grateful. Tell the switchboard operator that you'r calling for Jody Gibson who recorded for the Parlophone Co. when George Martin was the A&R manager. It appears that my CD, "Spanning the Decades is going to sell a few and I want to be sure that Parlophone get's their cut. I never had so much trouble giving money away before. Kindest Regards, Jody Gibson.
