Hi, I'm so sorry to hear about Harry Secombe. He was a very funny and vibrant man. One thought that may add a little cheer, though. It would be nice if he could get together with Peter Sellers, wherever he is. I'm sure they could find some ways to amuse themselves. That only leaves Spike Milligan though. NOOOOOOOOO! I wish i hadn't heard too, LTS. It's like all those things from childhood, the things you thought were forever, suddenly aren't like crumpets around the fire and your mum being there when you get home from school, and collecting free chestnuts on the way home... right that's done it. I'm getting all maudlin again. Still I suppose I can always be there when my kids come home from school...that's something.

R.I.P HARRY and my Mum and Dad. I'll miss you all.

Very sad to hear. The Goons and all B.B.C.Radio comedy shows were an essential part of my growingup in the 50's.(Over here in the S/E of Ireland we always got a great reception on the old medium wave).Even on "serious" programmes Secombe could never keep a straight face for long, he was always a ball of laughs. Farewell Seagoon.

RIP Neddie Seagoon indeed. Tapes of old Goon Shows and a healthy dose of Leadbelly helped me through a couple of down times. A great man and badly missed. Love and sympathy to his family and friends and thankyou Neddie.

I hadn't heard , and now I'm sad. His singing voice was amazing it felt like it filled the room, wrapped you up and gave you and the whole world a hug. And like fat B****d there were times when his irreverent humour really helped put the world back into perspective and made the bad times bearable.

Milligan tells of his first meeting with Secombe - or was it the other way round? Nevermind.

Anyway one of them had somehow lost a field gun (cannon) when they were in the army. Bumping into the each other the converstaion went -

"'scuse me have you seen a field gun pass this way?"

"Not sure - what colour was it?"

Classic stuff that legends are made of.

Heaven is now a better place...

I worked for Yorkshire Television for 16 years and in that time I must have done dozens of "Stars on Sunday" programmes where Harry did bible readings and songs, so we got to know each other quite well. But I will always remember his first visit after he was knighted, the floor manager called us all over and said Harry Secombe was comming in and that we were to call him Sir Harry from now on.
Well, when he arrived in the studio and we all called him Sir he made a little speech telling us he hadn't changed since the knighthood and would we still continue to use just Harry as we had always done.
I will miss him greatly.

There was an interview with Des O'Connor that was better; Des laughed so hard that he split his trousers and asked a wardrobe mistress to have a needle and thread handy, and that she wasn't to bite the thread afterwards. He actually turned to camera and showed the split up the back... all with Harry in hysterics in tne next seat.....
