Subject: RE: Help: Gm(no3rd) From: Rick Fielding Date: 14 Apr 01 - 10:57 PM Jeez you're quick tonight John. Notice that John states in four or five characters, what I have to ramble on about for three sentences! Put a barre down at the third fret. Use your ring and little finger on the fith fret, fifth and fourth strings, and "bump" your little finger into the third string, damping it. Leaves you with Ds and Gs. Rick |

Subject: RE: Help: Gm(no3rd) From: John P Date: 15 Apr 01 - 08:41 AM Play a normal, first position G chord. Put your fourth finger on the third fret of the high E string, making a G. Put your third finget on the third fret of the B string, making a D. Instead of fingering the A string on the second fret like normal (which would make a B, which you don't want), use that finger to damp the A string. Or damp the A string by flopping your hand over just enough so that your second finger (which is playing a G on the third fret of the low E string) touches the A string. John Peekstok |
Subject: RE: Help: Gm(no3rd) From: John Hardly Date: 15 Apr 01 - 08:54 AM John P. Thanks for pointing out what is an obviously easier fingering than what I charted. In fact I do it with thumb and one finger. 3X0033 |
Subject: RE: Help: Gm(no3rd) From: Midchuck Date: 15 Apr 01 - 10:12 AM Show some manly gumption. Barre across first two strings only, at third fret, with first finger. Fret sixth string with middle finger, also at third fret. Streeeettchhh to fret fifth string at fifth fret with ring finger or pinky, whatever works. That gives you a six string drone G - all Gs and Ds - that works as either a G major or G minor. Peter. |
Subject: RE: Help: Gm(no3rd) From: Rick Fielding Date: 15 Apr 01 - 12:37 PM But Peter...suppose our questioner was George SAND?? Rick |
Subject: RE: Help: Gm(no3rd) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 15 Apr 01 - 01:41 PM Nice chord Midchick, but I reckon it's a lot easier with the thumb being brought in to fret the sixth string.
Strictly speaking this isn't any kind of Gm chord, it's a G diad, which isn't either major or minor. But it sounds good whatever you call it. I've never thought of trying it before. You may just have saved me having to hump a second guitar up the hill to give me a special tuning for a particular song tonight. |
Subject: RE: Help: Gm(no3rd) From: John Hardly Date: 15 Apr 01 - 10:18 PM Now just a darn minnit there Midchuck--my 355033 has more G's than your's and mine's easier to play! I thumb the low E, ring and pinky the A&D strings at the 5th and index the B and high E. Guess that makes my gumption manliest of all--I can't wait to tell my wife--maybe I'll get lucky tonight! |
