This from IUMA as of today....(I continue to recommend them as a good alternative to MP3.$$$)

Dear IUMA Artists,

Just a quick note to tell you we're back! The time has come for a new era in IUMA's indomitable life -- effective April 6, 2001, we've officially re-launched IUMA's artist services! We've re-hired our staff, dusted off the old computers are moving full-speed ahead.

Effective immediately, we are accepting new artists through Artist Uplink; enabling all site functionality such as site stats, charts, bulletin boards and radio IUMA; enabling the IUMA Affiliate network; and bringing back Sue Few's Sound Check, a monthly newsletter with tips on the music industry and how to promote yourself as a new and upcoming artist.

We also owe a big thanks to Vitaminic for stepping in and honoring our artist ad-royalty payments for the December 2000 quarter! You should be receiving your royalty check by no later than May 15, 2001.

Thanks for letting us know. I tried to sign up on April 5th, which was when their FAQ said they'd be back up, but I guess it took a little longer than that. I also tried to sign up on the 6th and on the 7th with no luck, but today, it's working!

...Which is very good, as I just received a totally irrelevant response to a serious customer support question at mp3.con, regarding their misleading practice of stating a false "amount earned" on the pages of all their artists, even the artists who didn't sign up for their new "Premium" service. The letter was full of propaganda such as "We want to break > the shroud of secrecy that has always enveloped the > accounting practices of the music business."

If they really wanted to be clear about their accounting practices, they would show on each artist page what that artist is actually getting paid, not what the artist would be getting paid if they first paid mp3.con $20 per month of the artist's hard-earned money.

So I am withdrawing ALL my music from mp3.con, even though I now have a CD available through them. I want to make and market music, which is hard enough to do without dealing with mp3.con's lies.

This really hurts, as I used to be an enthusiastic promoter of theirs in their "New Music Army". I have signed up others to their service gladly. And now that they don't give good service, even to the people who promote them, I cannot in good conscience remain there.

Maybe I was naive... maybe nobody really is in it for the music...

I made a wee bit of $$$ on MP3, but have done much better on IUMA...and they paid on time and with a smile on their faces and a song in their hearts!

The band is at www.theashleygang.iuma.com

Good luck Hes, and let me know how it works out for you.

Here's a blue clicky for you, Paul G.

I will have a look as soon as I can. Thank you for your recommendation, I am still feeling a little grieved by the indifference of mp3.con, so it is good to know that some people ARE in it for the music, even if they have a company.

I am putting my music up on several of the web music portals now, and preparing websites to showcase the artists in a way that the templates of those places can't.

Thanks!
